On the day the remake of Dead Space emerged, someone did a benchmark test of the game using an Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card and found that it couldn't maintain decent framrerates. According to the tester, Motive's new take on the iconic 2008 survival horror doesn't run as well as The Callisto Protocol. While Striking Distance Studios' The Callisto Protocol underperformed in terms of sales and fans were concerned about performance issues when the game launched, it still had some decent reviews, although the reception probably wasn't what director Glen Schofield was hoping for.

With the return of Isaac Clarke, players can once again experience the claustrophobic body horror of the Ishimura. While this new iteration retains what fans loved about the original, there are a number of differences between Dead Space and the remake. Perhaps the most notable change is that Clarke now speaks, with the voice acting done by Gunner Wright, who played the alien-stomping engineer for Dead Space 2 and 3.

However, as highly praised as the remake has been so far, there were a few concerns mentioned during a benchmark test. Over on DSO Gaming, it's been suggested that Dead Space struggles to reach 60fps even with the might of the Nvidia RTX 4090 powering the PC. The report goes on to say that, in light of this, The Callisto Protocol actually runs much smoother. A video posted to YouTube shows the opening section of the DS remake, with the framerate not going much past 50fps. However, some in the comments have said that they managed to get great performance using a 4090. Even the tester admits that the game runs much better after the intro sequence, though there are other scenes when the framerate drops below 60fps. It was also suggested by one user that the CPU in the test reaching nearly 100 degrees Celsius might have been an issue, while another said a restart helped give them a boost in frames.

In any case, this could be an isolated incident and may not be related to the game's performance per se. When it released on January 27, the reviews for the Dead Space remake were largely glowing, with this modern take improving on the beloved 2008 classic and retaining much of what fans loved while making it a better experience for modern gamers.

With the Resident Evil 4 remake due out soon, not to mention Bloober Team's upcoming reimagining of Silent Hill 2, the resurgence of horror is still going on, especially when it comes to remakes. There's a lot to look forward to for those who enjoy scary games, and Dead Space proves that the genre is alive and well.

Dead Space is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
