During the previous chapter of Dead Space, there was a small change of plans for the shuttle. While Isaac and Kendra want to just use it to leave the USG Ishimura, Dr. Kyne insists that the shuttle must be used to return the Marker back to Aegis VII so that the Hive Mind can be sealed away again. Dr. Kyne believes that this will put an end to the threat that the Necromorph outbreak poses for Earth.

The Marker is now in the Cargo area of the Ishimura, and it will need to be loaded onto the shuttle. Here is what players can expect for the eleventh chapter of Dead Space, 'Alternate Solutions'.

This walkthrough contains significant spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Go Back to the Hangar

Once the eleventh chapter begins, follow the locator to get to the tram station. Use the tram to go back to the Hangar - Cargo - Tram Control area of the USG Ishimura, which is where the first chapter took place. The Marker was taken there and is being protected by a large amount of that organic growth and Necromorphs.

How to Retrieve the Marker

In order to pull the Marker out of the organic growth that is holding it, Dead Space players must use the cargo control terminal to activate the crane. Unfortunately, the terminal cannot be used until all the tendrils have been destroyed. Carefully search the area, as there are several glowing blisters that need to be destroyed. Also keep an eye out for a Guardian along the wall near a box that requires the Master Override code. The box contains an upgrade for the Force Gun.

Necromorphs will attack as more tendrils are destroyed, so be ready to deal with them. When all the tendrils have been destroyed, return to the cargo control terminal and use it to lift the Marker out of the Necromorph biomass that it is embedded into. More Necromorphs will emerge to try and stop players.

Move the Marker

In the original version of Dead Space, players had to use kinesis to move the Marker along the track toward its destination. In the remake, the Marker moves along the track on its own. Periodically, there will be a platform blocking the track and the Marker will stop. To get the Marker moving again, use the nearby terminal to lift the platform and the Marker will continue going along the track. This process will need to be repeated several times to get the Marker up to the hangar. Naturally, the Necromorphs will be trying to stop players from moving the Marker.

How to Load the Marker

With the Marker on its way to the hangar, it is time to load it onto the shuttle so that it can be taken down to Aegis VII. While going through the room where players first encountered Necromorphs, quarantine will kick in and players will have to eliminate everything that enters the room. After quarantine lifts, enter the hangar. The autoloader isn't working, so players will need to turn off gravity and load the Marker manually.

After turning off gravity with the nearby terminal, fly down to the small side room where the Marker is waiting. The Marker will continue to move along the track until it is stopped by an obstruction. Parts of the track are not in place, and they will need to be rotated so that the Marker can continue moving toward the shuttle. There are several terminals that allow players to rotate parts of the track, but they cannot be used until power is restored.

Luckily, there is a battery in the same room where the Marker was waiting in the hangar. Take it and follow the red power cables to reach the spot where the battery can be inserted. Go back up and use the terminals to bring the Marker closer to the shuttle. When the Marker is finally in place, return to the terminal that controls gravity in the hangar. Turn the gravity back on and go through the door to head back toward the shuttle.

Get Left Behind

As players try to board the shuttle, Kyne gets shot and killed and the shuttle flies away. Kendra calls Isaac and tells him the truth about how this Marker is a copy of the original found on Earth, and she was sent to find and retrieve it. After everything they've been through, Kendra decides to leave Isaac behind anyway. But all is not lost for Isaac yet. Shortly after Kendra's betrayal, Nicole contacts Isaac and tells him that there is still a way to get the Marker to Aegis VII. Follow the locator to reach a control room overlooking the hangar. Nicole is in this room, and she unlocks a terminal that allows players to recall the shuttle that Kendra is on.

Before Boarding the Shuttle

Before long, the shuttle arrives and players are able to get onboard. Inside the shuttle, a message will pop up indicating that this is a point of no return. What this means is that once players get onboard the shuttle, the chapter will end, and they will not be able to return to the USG Ishimura. Dead Space players should make sure that they completed everything they want to do before leaving. When ready, board the shuttle and the twelfth and final chapter will begin.

Dead Space is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.
