It's not that common for horror movies and video games to capture that feeling of dread that should be a staple within the genre, and even some very successful series didn't have major sequels to bring them back to life. Such was the case for Dead Space, at least up until a few days ago, when at the EA Live Play 2021 it was announced that the Canadian studio Motive Studios would be releasing a remake of the first game for next-gen consoles. It's been a long time coming for fans of the saga, but now there is finally something more to look forward to for Dead Space players, and while it's not going to be a sequel, there is potential for the remake to be also a way to reboot the franchise and eventually release Dead Space 4.

Dead Space, and especially so the very first installment in the series, has always been considered one of the most compelling and well-made horror games ever, and rightfully so. There are many things that Dead Space does right, including straying a bit from the jump-scares that other titles put at the center of the gameplay experience, and doing that means achieving more unsettling and creepy vibes from beginning to end. There's something truly horrific to be alone in space, on a spaceship haunted by terrifying creatures, all while wondering about what could have happened to the protagonist's significant other, and the remake of Dead Space will bring that to consoles that have been improved through and through. Of course, with the next-gen consoles' loading speeds, graphics, and performances, there are plenty of other games worthy of the same treatment, starting with the Silent Hill saga.

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill hasn't seen a new game in ages, much to the dismay of all the fans that the series garnered over the years, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S would be perfect consoles to have a remake and relaunch of the franchise. As a matter of fact, the last mainline title to be released was Silent Hill: Downpour back in 2012, but the game that would make the most sense to have as a remake is very likely Silent Hill 2, which was and still is considered among the best horror games ever (and within the series, too).

The game was released 20 years ago, and saying that it would benefit a great deal from both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S's power would be an understatement. Considering the success of Silent Hill 2, missing this opportunity would be oversight by Konami.

Alan Wake

Control Alan Wake

Another game that is treasured by all horror players and fans of story-driven thrillers is Alan Wake, which was released in 2010 and had its sequel canceled. The work on the sequel eventually became the basis for another game of the Finnish developer studio Remedy Entertainment, and it was released as Quantum Break. However, Remedy did not give up completely on Alan Wake, and when the AWE expansion for Control launched, it was revealed that all three games were intertwined in the so-called RCU (Remedy Connected Universe). In fact, the haunted writer that is Alan Wake made his return in great style, and he was revealed to be a major player behind the events of Control.

Dino Crisis

Fans of the horror genre may recall one of Capcom's strangest and scariest games to date, and that's the original Dino Crisis. The game saw the last installment in its series all the way back in 2003, with Dino Crisis 3, and it is about time that the so-called "Resident Evil with dinosaurs" returned with a reboot of the saga. The first installment would be the most adequate candidate simply because it was the most innovative of the bunch, and then there would be room to have sequels or other entries in the series as well. There were some memorable gory and dreadful scenes in Dino Crisis, and the dinosaurs had very well-made sounds that made the whole experience all the more haunting.

The Dead Space remake is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
