There's a whole community of dedicated teams and individuals who work tirelessly, and with passion, to recreate some of their favorite games, sometimes choosing to turn the clocks back and make them look intentionally retro. Take the Bloodborne PSX demake which was released recently, and quickly became something of a quiet hit for fans of the original 2015 gothic title. There is something intriguing about taking a contemporary video game and recreating it so it looks like something that was released twenty years ago, or more, and this one Dead Space demake fits in with this current trend.

In a video uploaded to YouTube a couple of days ago, Rustic Games BR shows what happens if you take something like the original Dead Space and, using the Unity Engine, reimagine it as something that looks almost like a classic Resident Evil game. In this instance, the four-minute clip shows Isaac Clarke wandering the Ishimura in gloriously pixilated third-person perspective, complete with tank controls, fixed camera angles rather than the over-the-shoulder method of the official game, as well as loading screens when entering a different room.

Given the overall aesthetic and viewpoint, it really does make the game look like one of the early, retro Resident Evil games that have been an influence on the horror genre since the mid 1990s. The only downside, according to a report from DSO Gaming, is that the video is just there as an example. It doesn't seem as though fans will get to see a full Dead Space demake anytime soon, but what's on display looks pretty cool all the same.

This is also not the first time the YouTube channel has showcased similar recreations of famous games. Last November, Rustic Games BR also showed what the likes of Resident Evil 7 would look like as a retro PSX-style game. Similar to this latest one, it takes the seventh installment of the influential series and takes it back several decades to make it look like a classic from the franchise, again with fixed camera angles and blocky visuals.

With EA currently remaking Dead Space, this will be a chance for fans to see something sort of new in the series since the disappointment that was Dead Space 3 from 2013. It's a shame that Rustic Games won't be releasing this demake, but it's possible that it could be down to potential lawsuits from the publisher. But for fans of the horror franchise, the remake should hopefully scratch that itch.

The Dead Space remake is set to release in late 2022 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
