It wasn't but two days ago when Dead Space 2 Producer Steve Papoutsis teased a potential upcoming demo release. Two days later and there's now an official announcement: the Dead Space 2 demo lands December 21, five full weeks before the full release. Consider it a special holiday gift from out friends at Electronic Arts.

In the demo, players will have access to a variety of Isaac Clark's new weapons, including the Javelin Gun, and updated stasis recharge mechanic and enhanced telekinesis ability. Players also get to check out Isaac's fancy new suit, which allows him to float around zero gravity. As if killing monsters in enclosed spaces wasn't horrifying enough already...

Here's some of Steve's comments regarding the upcoming tease at what could be next year's scariest game:

"The holidays are a great time to enjoy all forms of entertainment, and we can't wait to give horror and action adventure gamers a taste of what awaits them in Dead Space 2," ... "Releasing the demo five weeks before launch will not only re-connect players with our hero Isaac Clarke, but will also give them the opportunity to experience firsthand various jaw-dropping scenarios. It's gonna be awesome"

Game Rant has a few opportunities to see Dead Space 2 in motion, its gory, horrific motion, at E3 and we're excited to see what Visceral Games has lined up for the masses. Here's some predictions: it's going to be spooky, then terrifying, then exhilarating, and then leave you drenched in sweat, muscles taut, and wanting more. Kind of a stretch, right?

The demo will do well to instill hype for Dead Space 2 going into release. EA has done a good job keeping Dead Space 2 in gamers' periphery, what with its multiplayer beta and holiday messages (have anything lined up for Christmas?). Nothing persuades like a hands on, though. Dead Space 2 looks great, and it could certainly make a profit on brand alone, but a demo will show just how outstanding of an experience the game promises. Why not show the world just how amazing your game is?

Excited to finally try Dead Space 2 out for yourselves, Ranters? What are you excited to see in the demo: new monsters, the new space station setting, weapons, or just good old fashioned violence?

Dead Space 2 is scheduled for a January 25 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and also for the iPad. The demo will be available December 21 on PSN and Xbox Live (no PC demo, argh) in North America, and sadly Europe will only receive the PSN demo on December 22.
