Dead Space Collector's Edition

Is your collection of fake weaponry looking a little light these days? Do you have a giant space next to your replica M8 Avenger Assault Rifle, and therefore, one in your heart? If so, Visceral Games has got you covered. A leaked picture of the Dead Space 2 Collector’s Edition, briefly spotted on Amazon, shows that gamers will have something else to add to their artificial arsenal.

The collector’s edition has in fact been confirmed by EA for the UK, although it would be reasonable to assume that North America will get a comparable set. Fans following the game may recall that EA turned to them for inspiration for what to include. Here’s the official rundown:

  • A Soundtrack CD
  • A voucher for as of yet unknown DLC
  • Collectible Artwork
  • Life-size Plasma Cutter toy

Unfortunately, we don’t have any official pricing yet. However, EA has said that the Plasma Cutter will only be available with the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Dead Space 2. PS3 owners may recall that their set will feature the Move enabled version of Dead Space: Extraction. We also have no word on just how limited this set will be. After all, the Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition only had a run of 1,000 units, but that seems unlikely here.

This set should please both fans of the games and collectors of all things awesome. It is nice to see collector’s editions that feature tangible items that really do a service to a game’s loyal fan-base. Going above and beyond the usual soundtrack, making-of and concept art and giving fans a nice shelf-piece, like the Plasma Cutter, is what making a good special edition should be all about. Let’s just hope this set comes in at a fair price.

All you Dead Space Ranters out there, sound off. Are you excited about this set? How much would you be willing to pay for the chance to wield Isaac’s signature weapon?

Dead Space 2 is set to strategically dismember your bank account on Jan. 25, 2011. It will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
