Dead Island might not have ended up being the emotionally moving experience that the initial trailer for the game set it up to be, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a fun zombie-killing romp. With a pretty unique set of RPG elements, and a weapon crafting system a la Dead Rising, Dead Island was a passable summer release that delivered a decent amount of entertainment.

Just announced today, is a new piece of DLC, one that was initially set to release in September, which will now be hitting on the 22nd of this month. Titled Bloodbath Arena, this DLC will feature a handful of “horde-style challenges in four different arenas." Essentially, it’s a chance for Dead Island fans to get back out there and take down some more zombies.

On top of the four new arenas for zombie killing, Bloodbath Arena also introduces a new weapon, the Brain Wave Bomb. What exactly the Brain Wave Bomb does, aside from probably explode and kill zombies, we cannot say, but it sounds pretty awesome.

Much like Dead Island’s retail release, Bloodbath Arena wasn’t set to roll when the time came, but unlike the retail release developer Techland and publisher Deep Silver decided to take some time and fine tune the DLC until it was fit for release. Perhaps if the bugs that launched with Dead Island proper had been fixed the game would have been better received.

Deep Silver and Techland are reportedly giving the formula another go around, though, with Dead World -- or at least they have trademarked that brand. The game was received well enough to warrant a sequel, but whether or not gamers actually want it is a completely different issue.

Nonetheless a lot of those problems have either been addressed or fixed, and now there is a much better Dead Island experience to be had. And, with DLC that once again thrives on co-op play, it has just received an extra shot of life.

Are you interested in picking up Bloodbath Arena for Dead Island? Would you like more DLC for the game after this release?
