Motion Twin's roguelike platformer Dead Cells has evolved a lot since it first released out of early access in 2018, to the extent that the Dead Cells Legacy Update last December allowed players to use older builds of the game if they prefer. However, that hasn't stopped the indie title from continuing to grow, and today its 20th major update "Barrels O' Fun" released on PC.

Barrels O' Fun adds a new biome called The Derelict Distillery that can be encountered instead of High Peak Castle to, "Add more spice to the late-game" in one of PlayStation Now's three new titles for August 2020. According to Motion Twin's community post about the update on Steam, this biome's theme is barrels: Hulking enemies launch explosive kegs, mimics are disguised as barrels throughout, and there are additional dangerous barrel launchers generated randomly across the distillery.

Players can receive their own explosive barrel launcher through a new weapon being added into the game, which can in-turn be used to destroy breakable walls. The update will also be adding a retro-style chiptune soundtrack that users can toggle if they would like to hear remixed versions of Dead Cells' music.

Console players will have to wait for an unspecified summer 2020 release window to gain access to this new content. However, that shouldn't take too long considering the 19th major update that coincided Dead Cells passing three million sales was released on PC July 1, and then on consoles July 21.

Dead Cells is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
