Dead by Daylight grows more with each passing update as developer Behaviour Interactive adds new original characters and horror media crossovers. For example, Dead by Daylight confirmed a Resident Evil crossover will headline the next chapter following "All-Kill" from March 2021, and cosmetics based on Crypt TV characters were teased earlier this week. Behaviour is also updating the game's graphics as it goes, and it recently showed off a number of changes to the models for Survivor characters.

The horror-themed game features asymmetrical multiplayer in which one person takes the role of a "Killer" that has to hunt down four "Survivors" looking to escape a twisted game put on by a mysterious force called The Entity. While Dead by Daylight has become known for utilizing classic horror properties like Halloween, modern series like Stranger Things, and video games including Silent Hill, there are also a host of original characters for players to use.

Following the reveal of Crypt TV cosmetics on April 29, the official Dead by Daylight Twitter account has shared a number of posts depicting updated models for its original characters Meg, Dwight, and Claudette. These posts include video and still image comparisons that showcase better textures for hair, finer details for faces and accessories like glasses, as well as more realistic patches of mud and dried blood on their clothing.

Graphical updates have been a long-term project in Dead by Daylight, which has seen consistent new content since releasing in 2016. A developer forum post this January also let fans know they can expect to see updated animations for Survivor characters, alongside numerous texture and lighting improvements for maps including Gideon Meat Plant and Crotus Prenn Asylum.

Dead by Daylight's in-game HUD was also updated in February 2021 following backlash from prior changes. Though this shows that perceived improvements on the developer side can be hit-or-miss for Behaviour's fanbase, the fact it is willing to adapt based on what players want is always good to see.

Ultimately, changes to character models, animations, and in-game maps will be a boon for Dead by Daylight as it retains its playerbase through the wider adoption of next-generation consoles. Between upcoming content that includes more big names like Resident Evil and the one-year anniversary of Dead by Daylight's mobile app last month, there appears to be a lot for fans to look forward to, and it will be interesting to see how Behaviour delivers as it approaches the base game's fifth anniversary.

Dead by Daylight is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
