There have been rumors of a Silent Hill revival for the last couple of years, ranging from there being multiple new Silent Hill games in development to Hideo Kojima himself being involved, despite his less than amicable departure from Konami in 2015. In lieu of any new games, remakes, or re-releases since 2014, fans have had to make do with the asymmetrical multiplayer game Dead by Daylight, which added Silent Hill content in 2020.

With Halloween just around the corner, Dead by Daylight has already added several new pieces of content to celebrate the holiday, including an event called The Midnight Grove, a whole new chapter titled Hour of the Witch (which comes with an additional Survivor to play as), and even a crossover with For Honor. For Silent Hill fans, they can now enjoy two new skins that are specifically tied to Silent Hill 2.

The first skin is for Pyramid Head, an iconic monster from the Silent Hill series which debuted in Silent Hill 2 and is the series’ Killer representation in Dead by Daylight, where they are referred to as The Executioner. The new skin is named Pyramid Blight and, according to the official Dead by Daylight website, is a result of Pyramid Head injecting themselves with a dose of putrid serum, causing its body and blade to drip with rotting matter.

That seems to be all the lore the game is offering, but dedicated players will recognize the connection with another of Dead by Daylight’s Killers: The Blight. The Blight is a former chemist who can inject himself with a serum that boosts his abilities, so it stands to reason that Pyramid Head’s new look is a result of that same serum. The Putrid Serum also acts as one of the in-game currencies, although only during Blight events.

The second skin is for Silent Hill’s Survivor representative, Cheryl Mason. Like her other skins, it swaps her out for another Silent Hill character, specifically James Sunderland, the protagonist of Silent Hill 2. Considering the popularity of that game, it’s surprising that James wasn’t added to Dead by Daylight sooner, especially since he and Pyramid Head are, without spoiling too much, intrinsically linked. Pyramid Head doesn’t even appear in Silent Hill 3, the game Cheryl is from.

According to product store manager Rose Li, James was meant to be included back in July, but this changed due to a shift in deadlines. Fortunately, things seem to have worked out as Li believes Halloween is a far more appropriate time to bring James into the game.

Dead by Daylight is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
