Dead by Daylight continues to be many peoples' go-to choice when it comes to online co-operative horror titles. One of the reasons this game stands out from the crowd is its willingness to feature iconic horror characters from other franchises, especially classic horror movies. With the arrival of the Dead by Daylight and Ringu crossover, "Sadako Rising," the infamous ghostly woman in white from the Ringu franchise has officially made her way to the stage.

Sadako is one of the most famous villains in Japanese horror, especially overseas, where her visual glitches and unstoppable killing streak made her seem like the personification of urban legends. However, there's a lot to learn about Sadako from the Ringu books, multiple movie continuities, and even manga. Dead by Daylight seems to have drawn on the original Ringu novels for some elements of the crossover.

A release trailer recently uploaded to the official Dead by Daylight YouTube channel showcases what players can expect from her in cinematic form. The video features many iconic elements of the Ringu franchise, including the nightmarish scene of Sadako crawling out of a TV. However, it also showcases a few differences in how this version of Sadako behaves.

Although in most versions of the tale Sadako is best known for being a memetic threat that kills her victims with a heart attack and spreads exponentially, in Dead by Daylight Sadako poses a very physical threat to Survivors. However, the game does represent her nature as a psychic virus by having her start each match invisible and undetectable to any Survivor who isn't close to her. When she's near a possible victim, her presence will be intermittently revealed the same way she glitches in and out of existence in her films. To attack, she Manifests into her material form and becomes fully visible.

The Ringu films have always linked Sadako's terrible power with the television and VCR technology she hijacked with her psychic powers. Dead by Daylight allows Sadako to project herself into material form through the many TVs scattered around the map, an act that will also raise the Condemned progress of nearby Survivors. Any unfortunate Survivors who end up with a full Condemned meter can be instantly killed by drowning. Dead by Daylight's take on Sadako may not be able to give people who look upon her heart attacks, but she's still incredibly dangerous.

Dead By Daylight is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
