Developer Behaviour Interactive has announced that the popular 4v1 horror game Dead by Daylight is heading to next gen consoles this week, just in time for the launch of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Launching alongside the new consoles, Dead by Daylight will also have a free upgrade path for those who currently own the game on PS4 and Xbox One. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass can look forward to the game being made available on the platform as well.

Current players of Dead By Daylight will also be able to carry over progress from the older consoles to next gen versions when they make the jump. The new iterations of Dead by Daylight will support 4K and run at 60fps on next gen consoles as well as take advantage of the faster loading capabilities.

The next gen versions of Dead by Daylight are launching as part of the developer's new initiative for the game titled The Realm Beyond, where Dead By Daylight will see a number of improvements as a whole. On top of a revamp of the game's graphics, Behaviour Interactive is also working on overhauling the maps of the game with tweaks made to improve the overall experience. Behaviour Interactive will also support cross-platform play for Dead by Daylight on the next gen consoles with current gen.

In addition, characters in the game will also be revamped with a new visual overhaul, better animations, and an improved VFX. The aim of The Realm Beyond is to reinvigorate the game with more to do so expect more interactive elements on existing maps, helping break the routine.

Since Dead by Daylight's initial launch in 2016, the game has received several chapter expansions focusing on classic horror villains such as Michael Myers, Leatherface, and Freddy Krueger. Each new chapter includes new perks and player characters alongside villains, like the recently released Silent Hill chapter that put players in control of the titular Pyramind Head and Silent Hill 3 protagonist Cheryl Mason.

2021 will mark the 5th anniversary of Dead by Daylight so players can expect some big additions to the game along with The Realm Beyond project in the coming year along with new horror icons, more game play improvements, and some new creative ways to kill their friends.

Dead by Daylight is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launching alongside the consoles.
