Dead by Daylight is one of the most popular and successful horror games in recent times. After launching in 2016, it found a dedicated fanbase right off the bat, with many still playing five years on. Despite being five years old, Dead by Daylight is still receiving new updates and DLC packs to this day, with the last DLC introducing Hellraiser’s Pinhead to the multiplayer survival horror game. It is likely this support that sees the game continue to maintain relevance, and chapter 21.5 will provide more content very soon.

Dead by Daylight’s upcoming half-chapter Hour of the Witch arrives just in time for Halloween and will feature an all-new survivor. Dead by Daylight’s new survivor, Mikaela Reid, will be coming to the game on October 19. As she is an original character, fans will be unfamiliar with Mikaela and her backstory. Fortunately, Mikaela has received some extensive lore to help introduce her to fans.

Dead by Daylight’s Newest Survivor

Dead by Daylight has a good mix of original characters and licensed crossovers with big names in the horror space. The popular horror game has seen crossovers with the likes of Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill, all of which introduced new survivors to play as. The latest survivor to be added to Dead by Daylight will be Mikaela Reid. Mikaela is a character that may go over well with fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Like Sabrina, Mikaela is also a witch whose supernatural abilities could come in handy for Dead by Daylight players when her DLC drops later this month.

Dead by Daylight survivors have the primary aim of avoiding detection and escaping the level, as they're pitted against various killers such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface. As Dead by Daylight is a four against one horror survival game, the odds are firmly stacked in the killer’s favor, but that isn’t to say survivors are completely defenseless. Survivors are granted perks to give them a better chance of survival against the hulking killers, and Mikaela’s look as though they could be pretty useful. Mikaela has three personal perks, Clairvoyance, Boon: Circle of Healing, and Boon: Shadow Step. Clairvoyance allows the survivors to see the aura of nearby exit gates, hooks, generators, and chests, while Boon: Shadow Step essentially hides players from the killer. The Circle of Healing allows players to heal quicker and without med-kits, which could be very powerful.

Mikaela Reid’s Backstory

Dead by Daylight Hour of the Witch Mikaela Reid

Mikaela is an original Dead by Daylight character, and as such, players don’t have any source material in the way of TV shows or movies to watch ahead of her introduction. However, she does have a fairly in-depth backstory detailing her life and her journey into the world of witchcraft. Mikaela’s father, with who she seemed to have a very good relationship, passed away when she was 16, leaving her in a bit of a slump. However, Mikaela’s friends rallied around her, and she discovered a new passion for storytelling, with a particular love for horror stories. This may have been combined with her father’s passing to set her down a path to witchcraft.

Eventually, Mikaela was invited to participate in a Halloween festival by telling one of her stories, which she began spending long nights preparing for. But it is here that fans may begin to notice the crossover emerging. While writing her story, Mikaela has nightmares that are reminiscent of Dead by Daylight, in which she has a hook thrust through her chest. Halloween was approaching, and the more Mikaela wrote, the worse her dreams became. At the festival, Mikaela eventually tells her story, with a thick fog gathering and hiding her from the audience. Mikaela disappears in the fog, and it is here that her appearance in Dead by Daylight begins. As a young witch with a knack for stoytelling and useful spells, Dead by Daylight's Mikaela Reid could prove very popular.

Dead by Daylight is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, mobile devices, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
