Information found on Dead by Daylight's Public Test Build (PTB) suggests that Leatherface, an iconic killer from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, will be leaving the game soon. As was the case with its Stranger Things license in November 2021, Dead by Daylight may also be forced to remove Leatherface from the store in the near future.Leatherface is one of Dead by Daylight's oldest killers, being originally revealed in September 2017. Players have a love-hate relationship with the killer, who has become infamous over the years for his ability to take players out of the game at will by camping. Despite having an incredibly limited amount of cosmetics due to being a licensed character, several Leatherface cosmetics have been removed from Dead by Daylight over the last year, and it now seems that the entire killer may be removed from the store.RELATED: Dead by Daylight is Redesigning Eyrie of CrowsAs shared on Twitter by DbdNewsReal, who previously reliably leaked several cosmetics prior to their release, new code has been found on Dead by Daylight's Public Test Build that suggests Leatherface is going to be removed from the game. If this were to happen, it seems there are plans to make Leatherface's perks available to all killers in the same way as the perks for Steve, Nancy, and the Demogorgon were made universal when Stranger Things was removed from Dead by Daylight last year. The code, which is only shown to players who do not own the Leatherface DLC, refers to his perks by alternative names and suggests that the license to use the character has either expired or been overridden.

Though the reasons for Leatherface's possible removal are unclear, it would likely be caused by the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre asymmetrical game, which will surely feature Leatherface as the main antagonist. The reason titles depart from Dead by Daylight seems to be so that they can be used in a different game, with Stranger Things quickly appearing in a Smite battle pass following its exit from the realm of the Entity, and it is likely that Leatherface's removal from the game would also stem from him being used elsewhere.

Though the removal of Leatherface would be a blow for Dead by Daylight, particularly given that Leatherface was added to Dead by Daylight mobile not that long ago, players should know that it would likely only result in him leaving the store, not the entire game. As was the case following the removal of Steve, Nancy, and the Demogorgon from the shop, those who have already purchased the Leatherface DLC prior to his departure would likely still be able to use him in-game. His perks would be renamed and made available to all players, though new players would be unable to purchase or play as Leatherface.

Dead by Daylight is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
