Asymmetrical survival horror game Dead by Daylight features a host of characters, Survivor and Killer alike, taken from giant media properties. However, it also offers players a variety of original characters to choose from, and that number is about to grow in the new Hour of the Witch DLC. Dead by Daylight's latest Survivor is Mikaela Reid, a young witch consumed by the fog. The Hour of the Witch Collections also offers three new outfits designed to make their owners stand out.
On top of the new character, the Hour of the Witch DLC is also offering players a trio of never-before-seen outfits, one for the Hillbilly–one of the game's original Killers–one for Mikaela Reid, and one for Nea Karlsson, a Survivor added in a much earlier expansion. While Mikaela Reid's outfit offers players a down-to-earth, almost hippie vibe, the other two costumes are steeped deep in the game's horrific lore.
Dead by Daylight's new Survivor, Mikaela Reid, is a haunted young woman who found comfort in horror stories and witchcraft. Although the death of her father when she was a teenager changed the course of her life, she appeared to be coping–until her best friend disappeared and she began suffering recurring nightmares while working on a story. The video shows Mikaela Reid in two places at once: performing her story live at a festival and rolling uncomfortably in bed, clearly having a nightmare. The two scenes ultimately blend together as both versions of the Survivor vanish, pulled into the Entity's domain.
The new outfit for new Survivor Mikaela Reid is the Open Mic Host Outfit, which trades in the witchy theme of her character for a serene look featuring a cropped tee shirt, a blue tasseled skirt, a bedazzled hat, and a lot of bracelets. The result wouldn't be out of place on a beach. On the other end of the spectrum, the Hillbilly's Vile Scarecrow Set sees him become a desiccated, partly mummified corpse with burlap sacking stitched crudely over raw, exposed muscle in what may be his most terrifying look yet. Nea Karlsson's Vigo’s Disciple Outfit straddles the line between the two extremes by dressing her in a subdued brown outfit, complete with an apron, but leaving her absolutely covered in what appears to be Putrid Serum.
As of writing, it appears that other Dead by Daylight fans have received the new outfits relatively warmly, although the general consensus appears to be that the Vile Scarecrow Set looks like a Wraith costume. One user complained that the Hag hadn't received an outfit despite the DLC being called Hour of the Witch. Several other users complimented Near Karlsson's new outfit, stains and all.
