During its fourth-anniversary livestream, Behaviour Interactive announced huge undertakings for the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight, including a crossover with Konami's Silent Hill franchise. The biggest technical feat Behaviour announced was its intent to implement crossplay between consoles and PC for Dead by Daylight, and today it provided details on what to expect.

Having crossplay on different devices, as well as cross progression for players who utilize multiple platforms, have been highly requested features for the game according to Behaviour Interactive's blog post. The prior was soft tested on PC "ten months ago" when the game released for the Windows Store, and now the team is "confident moving forward" with the idea on all versions of the game — excluding Dead by Daylight Mobile. However, no concrete date is planned for the update beyond it coming "really soon."

Cross progression, allowing players to share their progress, purchases, and inventories between the Steam, Nintendo Switch, and the recently-announced Google Stadia version of Dead by Daylight, will be available in September, barring possible exceptions for licensing. However, the team is currently unsure if it will be possible to extend that to PS4 and Xbox One, but will "keep trying to make it happen."

In order to facilitate cross progression, Behaviour Interactive said it needed to "build a brand new ecosystem," and will require players to create a Behaviour Account so Dead by Daylight's servers can merge the data. The developers will be monitoring the activity to avoid issues, and will also watch to make sure crossplay does not make the game unstable. They may disable the function to work on fixes, but players can also choose to opt-out of crossplay if they want.

Dead by Daylight has been a wildly popular game since 2016, in-part thanks to its variety of crossover horror characters such as Michael Myers from Halloween, the Demogorgon from Stranger Things, and now Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. Its upcoming Google Stadia version will also add extra features, Crowd Play and Crowd Control.

Another popular facet of Dead by Daylight is its variety of outfits for Survivors and Killers alike, so the addition of cross progression is sure to be appreciated, even in a limited capacity. While it is less clear when crossplay will be added too, fans of the game have a lot to look forward to.

Dead by Daylight is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on Stadia in September.
