For some time now it may have seemed like Days Gone would never reach launch, but with January 2019 coming to an end the single-player open-world game is just a few short months away. There's no better time to start building up excitement for the game than now, so PlayStation is releasing a series of videos detailing the game's various gameplay systems and mechanics. Today's video is titled "Riding the Broken Road" and focuses on travel in the world of Days Gone, with special attention given to the player's motorcycle, the Drifter Bike.

According to the new trailer, the Drifter Bike serves as much more than just a method of transportation in the world of Days Gone, though it is certainly that first and foremost. It's also an important tool of survival from which the player is able to attack enemies, store extra ammo, and even respawn when missions result in failure. It doesn't appear that players can mount guns on the bike or anything - this isn't Mad Max after all - but maybe Days Gone has some surprises in store for release.

That said, the Drifter Bike is still just a tool for travel at heart, and like any good tool, it requires routine maintenance in order to run exceptionally. Like any motorcycle, the Drifter Bike will require consistent refueling after use. But beware, because fuel is a much sought after resource in Days Gone. Players will also have to repair their bikes if it's damaged, which brings up the possibility of upgrading the Drifter Bike with assorted durability improvements.

Beyond the Drifter Bike, the trailer does touch on some other gameplay. For example, the trailer mentions Days Gone's day/night cycle and how the Freaker zombies can become more active at night while Marauders are more active during the day. Players can rest at night at a safe house, but the world is still dangerous no matter the time of day. The trailer also mentions Infestation Zones that can be cleared to open up new fast-travel paths, an alternative to riding everywhere on your bike.

There's still much left for PlayStation and SIE Bend Studio to share about Days Gone between now and its release in April. This most recent Riding the Broken Road and last week's The Farewell Wilderness videos are likely just the start of the game's World Video Series. The story of Days Gone is just begun.

Days Gone releases April 26 exclusively on the PS4.
