One of the biggest 2019 releases for the PlayStation 4 is the fan favorite zombie open world title, Days Gone. Although the game has been out for well over a year at this point, Bend Studio continues to keep the experience updated for those playing or planning to. Last week, the studio released a massive 25 GB update that fixes numerous technical and performance issues. However, many fans believe this patch also paves the way for the eventual PS5 version from the PlayStation Plus Classics Collection.

In fact, Bend Studio took to Twitter to announce the actual PlayStation 5 upgrades players can expect when they boot up Days Gone on the new hardware. Following in the footsteps of fellow PS4 exclusive, God of War, Days Gone will support up to 60 frames per second with dynamic 4K resolution on the PlayStation 5. In addition, the studio confirmed that players returning to the game from the PS4 can transfer their save files to the PS5.

The announcement has seemingly left more than a few fans hopeful that an eventual sequel can push the game's technology even further, especially being developed with the PlayStation 5 specs in mind. While Bend Studio or Sony has yet to comment on an official sequel, there has been plenty of speculation and rumors suggesting that one is in the works. In fact, technical director Christopher Reese may have even teased a return to this world after the studio won two Golden Joystick awards last year saying, "This is a world that we want to keep breathing more life into, and explore many, many different avenues. So who knows, we'll see!"

While the news excited plenty of fans in the comments, more than a few began to question the fact that the framerate has only been confirmed to be up to 60FPS instead of keeping it consistent. While no existing PS4 games have been shown off through backwards compatibility on the PS5 yet, so fans have assumed that the dynamic 4K resolution is being used to keep things steady instead of trying to hit native 4K. In addition, this is a free update to an existing game made for a previous generation, so it's entirely possible that keeping a consistent 60FPS, especially with large hordes of zombies on screen, isn't feasible 100% of the time. Promising one thing and delivering another is a good way to upset fans, justified or not.

Regardless, the free update should see an influx of new players to the fan-favorite title when the PlayStation 5 arrives. The game has already racked up a massive amount of impressive statistics since it launched in 2019. Earlier this year, Bend Studio released some of those details including players spending over 8 billion credits on bike repairs, 1 trillion challenge points earned, 12.5 million challenges completed, and 45 million hordes of zombies cleared out.
