Let it be never said that the video game community does not voice its collective opinion when it feels the need to. Earlier this month, Sony rejected a pitch for a possible sequel to the action survival horror game Days Gone, which has upset more than a few fans. In fact, the outrage has not died down as a petition on Change.org went live recently and has already amassed a huge amount of support from the community.

As of this article going live, the petition which is asking that a Days Gone 2 game be made, is rapidly reaching 80,000 signatures. The actual figure at the moment stands at around just over 78,000 with a goal of 150,000 signatures hoping to be reached soon. The petition page implores Sony to consider making the sequel, saying that there are "millions of people" that want to have it approved and that the company should not "pull the plug" on it.

This is also not the first milestone the petition has reached. Just a couple of weeks ago, it began to pick up the pace when it reached nearly 25,000 signatures. With this number now more than triple, this is arguably the proof Sony needs that a Days Gone sequel is very much in demand. This is in spite of the fact that the game received some lackluster scores, but it has clearly built up quite a dedicated fan base.

The petition even caught the attention of the game's director, Jeff Ross, expressing delight that it was becoming one of the top petitions across the whole site, and urged other people to jump on board and get signing. This is also not the first time fans have started petitions in order to encourage studios and publishers to make more content. A couple of months ago, Red Dead Redemption fans started one in the hope of getting some new single-player DLC for RDR2.

As of now, there doesn't seem to be any hope of Days Gone 2 being made particularly due to the current game's mixed ratings. With the game doing just okay, it would be difficult to convince Sony that a sequel would be financially viable. However, a spokesperson for the studio has urged Sony to not put too much faith in Metacritics scores, which he argues can make or break potential future projects depending on overall scores. Whether this is true nor not, what will be interesting is to see how the tides change, if they do at all, once the petition reaches its intended goal.

Days Gone is available now on the PS4, and releases May 18, 2021, on the PC.
