Much remains to be revealed regarding the third-person shooter and survival MMO The Day Before. Despite a having shared a good amount of gameplay for The Day Before, including a 13-minute trailer, what players' goals will be in The Day Before and how progression works have been kept secret. What developer FNTASTIC has done is reveal technical showcases of The Day Before, like the game's visually impressive mud tech. In another such showcase, FNTASTIC shows what Nvidia ray tracing looks like in The Day Before.

A new 4K trailer was shared for The Day Before by Nvidia and FNTASTIC as part of the ongoing CES 2022 convention. The trailer focuses on how ray tracing will improve the visuals of The Day Before. As such, the trailer is only a minute long. The trailer does offer a unique look at The Day Before that's different than previous trailers, but it's largely just a focus on visual enhancements. Those hoping for further gameplay details will have to wait until later this year.

Given that ray tracing is a lighting technology, the short The Day Before trailer largely focuses on examples of lighting improvement. An initial screen cut shows how a lighted mid-city environment depth of color and shading changes dramatically with RTX on. Later scenes in the trailer showcase reflections in puddles, as well as shiny surfaces like the flooring in a mall. For the most part, however, the Nvidia RTX trailer focuses on how much more distinct and realistic general lighting and shadowing are throughout the game.

Two interesting gameplay details are also shown in the new The Day Before trailer. The first is what the game's over-the-shoulder camera angle looks like when players are aiming down the sights, an interesting choice rather than going into first-person. The second is dismemberment, with a player using a shotgun to shoot off zombies' legs, arms, and even their heads.

The Day Before was just one of 10 games that Nvidia showcased as part of its CES 2022 showcase for RTX ray tracing technology. Other games confirmed to feature RTX in the future include Rainbow Six Extraction, Escape from Tarkov, SUPER PEOPLE, Hitman 3, Voidtrain, The Anacrusis, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, Ratten Reich, and Midnight Ghost Hunt.

Expect to hear more about The Day Before, an open-world survival MMO with clear influences including Day Z, The Division, and more titles in the months to come. Its expected launch date remains June, so developer FNTASTIC should be sharing a lot more gameplay before long.

The Day Before releases June 21 on PC with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports also in development.
