Super Bomberman R launched back in early 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, but it's had a fair share of updates and improvements since then, especially following its recent port to other home consoles. Konami has now revealed new playable characters are coming to the action game, and they're bound to stir up nostalgia among Metal Gear Solid fans.

Solid Snake and Naked Snake are being added as playable bombers to Super Bomberman R with its version 2.1 patch. David Hayter, who has voiced Solid Snake since the original PlayStation release of Metal Gear Solid, will once again reprise the role. Raiden will also be added as a playable character, and the update will also add a Mother Base playable stage for Metal Gear fans to enjoy. Snake will be able to play alongside all the other Konami classic characters that have made their way to the title, like Pyramid Head of Silent Hill or Simon Belmont of Castlevania.

Konami has previously received repeated criticisms regarding how it has handled microtransactions in Metal Gear games. Metal Gear Survive created controversy by charging for extra saves, and Metal Gear Solid 5 offered microtransactions that cost more than the game itself. In a move that will likely please fans who have grown tired of microtransactions in the Metal Gear franchise, Super Bomberman R is releasing the characters and stage for free with the 2.1 version update.

This is the second time this month that David Hayter has been confirmed to be voicing Snake in one form or another. Hayter previously responded to a fan via Twitter where he confirmed that he will also be reprising the role as Snake in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, who will return alongside every other character that has ever appeared in Super Smash Bros.

It remains to be seen if Solid Snake will make more game appearances in the future, whether in a Metal Gear game or as a guest in another series. In any case, it seems fans of the series can at least continue to enjoy revisiting the iconic character in guest appearances in games like these.

Super Bomberman R is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Switch.
