Anthony Mackie and David Harbour are uniting outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming horror comedy We Have a Ghost. Netflix dropped the official trailer, which features Harbour in the role of Ernest, a friendly ghost wearing a bowling shirt with an interesting past. With the help of a teenager, this past will be revealed unless things spiral out of control due to the family’s sudden social media fame.

The Netflix trailer begins like any other horror flick, with Mackie's family moving into a new home with a dark history. While the family is hesitant, a horror movie requires a move into a haunted house for the story to progress. But, We Have a Ghost isn’t a typical horror film, as the plot turns comedic when the ghost appears.

When Mackie's Frank Presley and his family move into their new home, his son Kevin's classmates refer to it as “the house of death” and reveal that it is haunted. Out of curiosity, Kevin goes exploring in the attic and comes across Harbour's Ernest, a balding ghost who cannot talk. When Frank finds out about the ghost in their home, instead of being concerned, he films the ghost and posts the videos on social media, earning him instant fame. However, the plot twist comes in the form of Kevin investigating Ernest's past and becoming a target of the CIA.

Judging by the trailer, We Have a Ghost will retain its comedic theme while hilariously parading Harbour's Ernest in front of the whole neighborhood. At one point, Ernest is seen running through several buildings, including an office and a tattoo parlor. That customer isn’t going to be too pleased with his ruined tattoo. On the other hand, Frank is cashing out on the prospect of housing a ghost. The media, paparazzi, and even a Jesus Christ look-alike want a moment of Ernest's time. But the fame catches up with the ghost soon when the CIA wants to apprehend him, possibly to conduct experiments.

We Have a Ghost has a powerful star cast, with Harbour and Mackie at the forefront. The protagonist, Kevin, is portrayed by Atypical star Niles Fitch, and the film also stars Jennifer Coolidge, who recently won a Golden Globe for her performance in The White Lotus. The film also features Tig Notaro, Erica Rash, Isabella Russo, Steve Coulter, and Faith Ford.

We Have a Ghost is directed by Christopher Landon of Happy Death Day fame. The film gives off vibes similar to 1995's Casper and 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. It remains to be seen whether it’ll be able to match the same level of success, but judging by the trailer, it is bound to get quite a few laughs.

We Have a Ghost is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on February 24, 2023.
