David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have assembled the cast for their upcoming sci-fi Netflix series titled Three-Body Problem. Among the 12 recently announced cast members are Godzilla vs. Kong star Eiza González and Game of Thrones alums Liam Cunningham and John Bradley.

Netflix first announced Benioff and Weiss would join Alexander Woo to executive produce a series based on the acclaimed Chinese book series titled The Three-Body Problem in September 2020. The project was the first to be written by Benioff and Weiss for Netflix since the former Game of Thrones pair signed a multi-year deal with the streamer that was said to be worth nine figures.

In addition to González, Cunningham, and Bradley, the ensemble cast of Netflix's Three-Body Problem includes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Benedict Wong and Tsai Chin, Jovan Adepo, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Saamer Usmani, and Zine Tseng. Details on the roles each of these actors will be playing have not been divulged at this time. Benioff and Weiss will serve as showrunners on the series while Woo, who also has an overall deal with Netflix, is credited as a co-creator and writer along with his aforementioned executive producer title. The behind-the-scenes talent for Three-Body Problem also includes Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson as executive producer along with Brad Pitt and Rosamund Pike.

Netflix's Three-Body Problem adaptation will cover all three books in the trilogy from author Liu Cixin. The stories are set in the future where humans have made their first contact with an alien civilization. The series adaptation will follow an astrophysicist named Ye Wenjie, who attempts to aid the aliens in their invasion of Earth after watching her father die at the hands of the Red Guards. Meanwhile, different factions and rebel groups on Earth come into conflict as they attempt to prepare for the impending invasion. Liu will serve as a consulting producer alongside sci-fi writer Ken Liu, who translated the English versions of the first and third books in the Three-Body Problem trilogy.

As the former showrunners of Game of Thrones, Benioff and Weiss and no stranger to ambitious series with ensemble casts. However, the pair may have to earn back the faith of fans after the much-maligned finale season of Game of Thrones tarnished their reputations in the eyes of many.

Still, with the additional talent behind the scenes, perhaps audiences will rest easy knowing Benioff and Weiss won't be the only ones lending their hand to adapting Three-Body Problem as a series. Plus, Benioff and Weiss are no longer working on their abandoned Star Wars project, which many believe was the reason why the pair seemingly rushed through the final years of Game of Thrones.

Three-Body Problem will premiere on Netflix on a yet-to-be-announced date.
