Dave the Diver is filled with a plethora of story quests that players will need to complete to get through the current story. One of the many quest chains that Dave will need to swim, collect, cook, or serve his way through is Duff's Pink Delivery Box quest chain.
It begins with Duff asking for help tracing down an important package. Dave finds it underwater, but it is in the clutches of the giant squid that downed the shipping boat. After cutting through the shipping boat's hull, Dave can swim into the massive sea monster's lair and fight it to the death in this comedic game's first boss battle.
In the Sea Monster's Lair in Dave the Diver
First, players should make sure to save the Dave the Diver game. After cutting through the hull, selecting yes to the prompt, and swimming into the lair, Dave will find a long cave with the Giant Squid at the end. Before going into the fight, though, players will want to pick up the handful of boxes just inside the cave's mouth. This will include a weapon crate, an air capsule, and an air refill and should spawn every time Dave enters the cave, meaning they'll be there again if players have to come back a second time.
After collecting all the boxes, players should keep swimming to the right to find the monster itself, snoozing after a long day of harassing boats and fish alike. It's now time to take it out and bring back some pieces for the restaurant sim part of the game.
The Giant Squid's Attack Pattern in Dave the Diver
The giant squid in the indie game Dave the Diver has several attacks, but only a couple will deal damage. Every time Dave takes damage in this game, players will lose a little of their oxygen, so they will want to avoid being hit as much as possible. The squid's attacks are:
The Pushback
After Dave gets a good hit in, the squid will blow a bunch of ink at the player, pushing them back toward the beginning of the cave. This deals no damage, but having a swimming speed boost will help out quite a bit here.
Tentacle Attack
Once Dave has been pushed back by the Subnautica-like creepy monster squid's underwater breath, he'll have to swim back across six spots where the squid's tentacles will try to hit him. Players will see the ground change where the limbs will pop out. It will kick up some dust in the spots the tentacles will appear.
Players should look for two at a time; these will only appear once, even if Dave swims back and forth over the spot several times. This move deals quite a bit of damage, so players will definitely want to steer clear of these attacks.
The Melee Slap
Once Dave gets back into range to shoot the giant sea creature, it will have a melee attack. The tentacle that it uses to cover its eye can really pack a wallop, so players should again make sure to avoid being in smacking range.
How to Defeat the Giant Squid in Dave the Diver
The only way to defeat this massive enemy is to land 3-5 shots directly into its eyeball. A great tip for Dave the Diver players is to use any ranged weapon that deals damage, from a standard underwater rifle to any other gun. Melee weapons put Dave too close to the squid's very long arms, and most load-outs of harpoon won't do enough damage. Also, players should make sure that Dave has upgraded his suit high enough to dive to the necessary depth to not be taking damage just for being down this far below sea level.
In terms of dealing damage, players should aim carefully and hit the squid right in the eye when it is not covering it up. If the watery video game squid doesn't push Dave back, they can hit it again. If they are pushed back, they should try to swim back as quickly as possible, avoiding the tentacles as they do so. If needed, players can find an ammo box if they swim far enough back into the cave. After 3-5 hits, the Squid will fall.
