Guardians of the Galaxy's own Dave Bautista has long been wanting to enter the video game movie genre fray with a Gears of War film adaptation, claiming that it's his "destiny" to portray series protagonist Marcus Fenix. Despite his efforts, Bautista does not believe that is going to happen necessarily.

Gears of War movie has been in the works for a while now, seemingly having gone through its own developmental issues. It was said recently by Gears developer boss Rod Fergusson himself that the Gears of War movie adaptation may be set in an "alternate reality," though he later clarified he meant that the video game lore and the film lore will be completely separate. Beyond this, little is known about the movie besides Bautista's yearning to be meathead-like soldier Marcus Fenix.

Bautista tweeted something recently suggesting he has gone beyond publicly expressing a desire to be in the Gears of War film. In response to a rhetorical question for Hollywood tweeted by RetroRhinoGames about getting Bautista to star in the film, Bautista claimed he has tried his hardest to be able to get a role in the film. He tweeted the following:

Bautista's statement may be a bit disappointing to Gears of War and Dave Bautista fans who were hoping to see him fill the shoes of one of Microsoft's mascots. However, this doesn't necessarily mean he won't play Marcus Fenix or that he won't star in the film. While this idea is strongly hinted at, there has technically been no announced actor for the role of the quasi-anti-hero. As such, Bautista's efforts made thus far may just work out at some point down the line.

In the meantime, Gears of War fans can look forward to the upcoming release of Gears 5. The tech test for the series' sixth entry began recently, giving Gears players who have downloaded it via pre-order codes or Game Pass a taste of what is to come. With a new Versus mode called "Arcade" and two other traditional Versus modes, Gears fans will have some idea of what to expect come the game's September release.

The Gears of War film adaptation is currently in development.
