By coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Dauntless is one of a few titles that is not only available on the majority of gaming platforms but supports crossplay and cross-progression. While players have been able to enjoy Dauntless up until now on next-gen consoles, they've been running in a compatibility mode. This update will allow them to run natively and thus capitalize on the full range of benefits the next-generation of consoles is capable of. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X users will be able to play Dauntless at 4K resolution and 60FPS while Xbox Series S users will be able to play at 1440p resolution at 60FPS.

In addition to the enhanced framerate at higher resolutions, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will be able to enjoy the graphical overhaul coming on December 2. This includes gorgeous new lighting, improved view distance, volumetric fog and other effects, completely reworked environmental textures, new trees, water, grass, and much higher quality of shadows. It is unclear if these enhancements will carry over to PC users as well. While it would make sense, it isn't explicitly stated in the blog post.

As if all of those goodies weren't enough, the Dauntless team is also adding 36 new trophies and achievements. This also includes a new Platinum trophy for PlayStation 5 users. Also for PlayStation 5 users, there will be support for dynamic adaptive triggers and integrated sound from the DualSense wireless controller. Players will also be able to take advantage of 3D audio to fully immerse themselves in the Shattered Isles. Last, but not least, PS5 users will also be able to instantly jump into select hunts from the Activities menu. There are a few featured hunts planned at launch that players will be able to instantly join.

Dauntless has come a long way since when it launched in 2019. The Reforged update in 2020 proved to be controversial as players felt it had reset their progress and put a needless grind in place to upgrade weapons and armor. Still, Dauntless has proven to be a draw thanks to its engaging gameplay, free-to-play model, and wide availability with crossplay support. While it's hard to compete with the juggernaut that is Monster Hunter, at least someone is trying, and to some extent, succeeding.

Dauntless is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One and will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on December 2nd.
