When inside the world of Dauntless, players can expect to go on hunts against plenty of unique monsters known as behemoths. These creatures can also come with their own special attacks or elemental damage from things like fire, electricity, and frost. Status effects can prove to be the difference between life and death when facing off against these massive brutes, though the game doesn't always do the best job explaining how to trigger some of them.

Wounding and Staggering are two very important status effects in Dauntless as they temporarily increase damage and stun the target for a brief time. Keep in mind that these status can affect a behemoth or the player as well.

These two statues are also very important to finish the Combat Alchemy quest given by Bosun Markus Boehr. Players are required to wound and stagger five behemoths each in exchange for 100 gold, a bronze utility core, and the valuable schematics for Insight and Assault tonics. Here's how to complete both of Boehr's objectives.

How to Wound a Behemoth

Piercing weapons excel at wounding behemoths with many players turning to the War Pike for the best results.

During a battle, slayers should target a specific part of the behemoth and continue applying damage to it. Each part of the monster has a specific health meter and wound damage will appear as red numbers. With enough damage done, the wounded status effect will be applied, increasing the total damage done to the beast and giving the body part a blue glow to it. This also triggers certain perks like Savagery, which increases damage by up to 200% on wounded parts.

Wounded parts not only take more damage from all players in the party but when enough damage has been done, it's possible to completely break it to earn more crafting parts.

How to Stagger a Behemoth

Unlike wound, Stagger damage does not impact the overall health of the behemoth. Blunt weapons like hammers are the best options for the quickest results, though slashing weapons like swords can also cause stagger.

To start doing stagger damage, players should target the legs and head of the Behemoth. Successful stagger damage is indicated by blue numbers and when enough damage has been done, the monster enters a stunned state by falling to the ground. At this point, players can get free hits and damage on the monster until it gets back up. Use perks like Knockout King and Weighted Strikes to increase stagger damage.

When these status effects are mastered and the quest is complete, players will be able to make Insight and Assault tonics. With Insight, players can improve their wound damage for a set amount of time while Assault increases the amount of stagger damage. These two tonics, when combined with the knowledge of each behemoth elemental weakness, should make players a serious force to be reckoned with.

Dauntless is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
