Make your choice between Aether Strikers, Repeaters, War Pike, Hammer, Axe, Chain Blades, and Sword to master this gripping action RPG. Connect with friends and fight humungous monsters that wreck havoc and pierce players with elemental energies. Watch out for certain very difficult enemies as you rise up the ranks, though. These Behemoths are always on the verge of defeating wandering warriors that are up for a challenge. Eager players and parties in Dauntless will find the following tips vital when they come up against these hardest of foes.

10 Thunderdeep Drask: Stay Close And Aim For That Tail

Player attacking Thunderdeep Drask with a War Pike in Dauntless

Thunderdeep Drask is an aggressive electric Behemoth that players don't want to mess with. Found on the isolated landscapes of Cape Fury, Thunderdeep Drask runs wild on the Hunting Grounds and strikes its foes with lightning.

Winning against Thunderdeep Drask requires the player and/or party to stay in close combat range. Straying far away from the Behemoth will trigger it to launch lasers in quick succession. Getting hit by one of these lasers will cause players to lose a good sum of their hit points. Thunderdeep Drask is weak against weapons that deal Terra damage. With that in mind, Slayers can equip the likes of Agents of Decay, Malignant Scourge, and Unsteady Ground to tear down its defenses. Be wary, though, as Thunderdeep Drasks use their claws and teeth to strike down party members attacking them from a close distance. Players can assault the creature's tail and cut it off to significantly lower its health before attempting the final blow.

9 Deepfrost Gnasher: Watch For Great Icey Projectiles And Wrap Up For The Cold

Deepfrost Gnasher charging towards player in Dauntless

Scouting Behemoths can be as hard as locating those elusive Royal Monsters in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Deepfrost Gnasher, however, can be found grazing the Frostmarch island in the Hunting Grounds. As players march across the fields of Skybloom, they can encounter the Deepfrost Gnasher ravaging the local Skaldish.

Since it’s a Frost Behemoth, Slayers should equip Frost armor which will help protect them from the beast's vicious head-on attacks. Deepfrost Gnasher slams its tail and rolls towards party members to deal massive damage. It also performs a side slam and occasionally hurls a snowball at its opponents. Watch out for the distinctive tells for such attacks and use a combination of fearsome weapons like the Hammer, Axe, and Chain Blades with Repeaters to defeat the monster. While making use of Frost armor to shield the team against icey bursts of damage, Boreal Might, Brow of Ice, and Core of Ice can further grant players status resistance against the Deepfrost Gnasher's strengths.

8 Flameborn Quillshot: Counter Its Quills With Chain Blades

Countering Quills of Flameborn Quillshot with Chain Blades in Dauntless

Flameborn Quillshot is a four-legged Behemoth that violently strides on Brightwood and Hades Reach in the Hunting Grounds. It uses its horns and quills to make players tremble.

Primarily, Flameborn Quillshot fires its quills from its back onto the ground. The quills can impale players and explode within seconds of contact. It frequently digs deep and burrows underground in search of its prey. Slayers can toggle between Chain Blades and Repeaters to send the Flameborn Quillshot flying. Another fun way of beating the Flameborn Quillshot is by using Chain Blades to hurl the quills back at the Behemoth. Since it doesn’t have a weakness to any of the elements, the most powerful raw damage weapons available are the best picks to help players dominate the battle against Flameborn Quillshot. Raging Fists, Quillshot’s Fury, and Raging Teeth, for instance, can quickly quell the beast.

7 Firebrand Charrogg: Devastate Its Shell, But Beware Of Fire

Firebrand Charrogg stunned with Hammer in Dauntless

Firebrand Charrogg is a sturdy Behemoth. It can be hunted down on the islands of Undervald Defile and The Paradox Breaks.

Players will find this Behemoth particularly fearsome due to its vicious attacks. Firebrand Charrogg has a few lethal mid-range attacks that can burn all party members at once. Attacking its head will cause the Behemoth to breathe fire and spew magma onto players. Cornering the Firebrand Charrogg will make the beast jump into the air and launch fire in all directions. The most vital tip is to destroy the four fire chambers below its shell, which will prevent it from using most of its blazing attacks. Firebrand Charrogg is weak against weapons that deal Frost damage. As such, players can strike the Behemoth with Pangar’s Punishers, Turmoil of Boreus, and Winter Squail for an easy win. Equipping the best fire resistance that Slayers currently have available is a given too.

6 Riftstalker: Bring This Speedy Foe To Heel But Watch For Those Dark Orbs

Riftstalker ready to pounce on player in Dauntless

Riftstalkers are dark creatures from the Umbral Void. These Behemoths venture into the void in search of the purest Aethers. Players can hunt Riftstalkers on Cape Fury and Twilight Sanctuary.

As one of the fastest Behemoths in the game, Riftstalkers will pounce on party members at any chance they get. They use Umbral Portals to drift between spaces and rapidly take down players. Weapons that deal Radiant damage are effective against Riftstalker. Chaos & Entropy, Existential Crisis, and Edge of Tomorrow can wipe out Riftstalker in a matter of minutes. When being attacked, meanwhile, Riftstalkers can drag players into the Umbral Void and strike them with dark orbs of energy. Evading these orbs requires players to be on their toes. Timing attacks --particularly with faster weapons, as windows of opportunity will be small-- and dodging any incoming damage is crucial to beat Riftstalkers. Solid fundamentals are more important than ever in this high-octane battle.

5 Shrowd: Sidestep Its Sweeping Attacks And Stun It While It's Enraged

Player sidestepping Shrowd's sweep attack in Dauntless

Shrowd is a winged Behemoth that soars over the skies of Twilight Sanctuary and The Blazeworks. Hunting these horrific Behemoths can be very dangerous as they glide across the land, striking fear into the hearts of Slayers everywhere.

With a mix of ground-based and airborne attacks (a la the iconic Rathian and Rathalos and their fearsome variants from the Monster Hunter series), Shrowds can make it tough for players to deal serious prolonged damage to them. They sweep across the field with their wings, trying to catch party members off guard with erratic movements. Trusty powerful weapons like Kharabak’s Spur and Ember Pike can deal devastating damage upfront. Umbral armor, meanwhile, can guard the team against their foe's fury, while Tragic Echo, Dark Watch, and Dark Marrow can also nullify the damage from Shrowd to an extent. When enraged, it can dowse the battlefield in darkness and charge towards players. If Slayers can take this opportunity to interrupt and stun the Shrowd, they will give themselves and their team plenty of time to knock it out.

4 Thrax: Focus On Radiant Damage And Target Its Head

Menacing Thrax about to attack player with its limbs in Dauntless

Thrax is a monstrous Behemoth from the depths of the Umbral Void. It is the Boss Behemoth of the Umbral Escalation. Thrax is one of the scariest and most brilliantly-designed monsters in the action RPG realm, and its dark descent has sent tremors of terror that have shaken the Shattered Isles.

The worm-like Behemoth uses its limbs to tear into portals and attack multiple players. Keep an eye out for umbral portals opening up to evade these moves. The dark denizen will spit out embers that can ensnare players and teleport them closer to Thrax. It will frequently dash through the battleground and leave a trail of umbral flames that can split the team. Radiant weapons such as The Weeping Hours and Valomyr’s Regard will deal devastating damage and help to stop the Behemoth in its tracks. Players can also mount its head to decapitate Thrax.

3 Agarus: Attack The Stem And Take Advantage Of Its Immobility

Player slashing the stem of Agarus in Dauntless

Agarus is a Behemoth with plant-like features that emits spores to alter creatures around it. It is a voracious monster that sprouted on the islands of Arbourhome. Agarus is the Boss Behemoth of the Terra Escalation.

Unlike other Behemoths, Agarus is fixed to a spot and attacks players with its vines and tendrils. Get close to its stem and strike Agarus with heavy-impact weapons like the Hammer. The Behemoth will pound the ground and spill poison to attempt to derail the team. Electric weapons that deal shock damage are a bane to Agarus, so Thundering Bolts, Terminal Voltage, and Storm Sword are examples of weapons very effective at zapping the Behemoth. It will also disperse spores that will sap health, so watch for the telltale animation of these moves and chop its stem to beat Agarus.

2 The Chronovore: Radiant Armor, Reflexes And Staunch Allies Needed

The Chronovore firing energy orbs in all directions in Dauntless

The Chronovore is an avian Behemoth that can create ripples across time and space. It was first sighted at a research facility at the Paradox Breaks. Players need to collect eight Chrono-Stones to summon the beast for battle.

With a gamut of versatile moves that spread across the arena, the Chronovore can take down opponents within moments. The Behemoth will use its elastic tail to whip players near and far, and projects lasers from its tail to scour the battlefield for any gamers who aren't wary. Radiant armor can dampen the damage dealt by The Chronovore, but players will need to take the time to practise, learn its tells and the best times to deal some punishment of their own. Timeweave Helm, Prismatic Grace, and Crest of Valour are dependable gear to defend against its attacks. It will also emit shiny energy projectiles in all directions, seeking to hit the entire team at once. That’s why having party members watching and healing teammates can be essential for victory.

1 Torgadoro: Equip Blaze Armor

Player mounting the head of Torgadoro in Dauntless

Torgadoro is a territorial Behemoth that ravages the Chain of Fire islands. Its body is made of volcanic rock and it scorches its enemies with its heat. Torgadoro makes Slayers shudder with its sheer strength, and it is definitely among the hardest Behemoths to beat in Dauntless. It is the Boss of Blaze Escalation.

For a Behemoth of its size, Torgadoro is both fast and powerful. It can clobber players with its fists and spread magma to further endanger party members. Torgadoro will also lunge towards players and slam them against the ground to deal massive damage. Winter Wolves, Permanent Frost, Blizzard’s Teeth, and other Frost weapons can bring this Behemoth to its knees, however. Slayers can also jump above the beast and mount its head to strike without taking damage. Swords and Chain Blades are excellent weapons against Torgadoro. The Skullforge and Fiery Breastplate are some of the coolest sets of armor in RPG games, and equipping them can reduce the flaming damage from Torgadoro’s attacks. Striking its feet with a hammer is also an effective strategy to defeat the Boss Behemoth.

Dauntless is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC now. Players can team up with up to three players in co-op mode across these platforms to explore the Shattered Isles and battle these vicious beasts in this great free-to-play title.
