Dauntless is an upcoming free-to-play action role-playing game expected to release sometime in this year for PC, and the game entered open beta just a few days ago. However, as often happens with beta models of video games, there have been a number of server issues with Dauntless.

Notably, Dauntless was officially announced about a year ago and is in development by Phoenix Labs, an indie developer composed of former BioWare, Riot, Capcom, and Blizzard developers. The core concept of the game is that, following a cataclysmic event that tears the world apart, players take on the role of Slayers to hunt down behemoths, which is comparable to Capcom's Monster Hunter.

But hunting these behemoths during the open beta hasn't been a simple task, as the game has faced a number of matchmaking issues, not loading into Ramsgate after a hunt, experiencing low FPS after the tutorial, and crashing after the tutorial as well. For example, some players have had to wait for more than an hour to get into a game, which is definitely a frustrating scenario. Phoenix Labs is aware of the issues and has been sending out frequent updates to address player complaints.

It seems unlikely that the game endured such issues during its closed beta, as there weren't as many people playing. The matchmaking queues have been one of the main concerns of beta players, but at 12:30 am on May 27, the developers issued an update that improved speed and stability when returning to Ramsgate. As a result, this should also alleviate some of the overwhelming numbers bogging down the matchmaking servers.

The development team stated that players should expect the next update to roll out sometime today, further alleviating some of the undue stress the game has endured and caused. While the comparisons to Monster Hunter are not likely to go away anytime soon, Dauntless has also revealed that it is not worried about competition from Monster Hunter Worldand so long as the developers continue to fine tune the game, there's no reason to believe there's not enough room in the industry for another behemoth-slaying game.

Dauntless releases sometime in 2018 for PC and will be free-to-play.
