The assault on gamer’s wallets won’t stop. With each new high profile game release comes another opportunity to offer limited edition bundles, and they just keep getting more tempting. Fallout 4‘s Pip-Boy Edition didn’t even make it a week before it was sold out permanently, despite Bethesda actually wanting to make more. Obviously video game fans are more than willing to shell out good money on quality bundles that let us show off to fellow nerds.
Typically, these kinds of bonuses make their video game tie-ins known, but mostly just to those who are also fans. However, Disney just upped the stakes in a big way, and old-school geeks and fledgling gamers alike are about to be tantalized once more.
Disney and Sony announced today at the D23 Expo that gamers will get a chance at a Darth Vader-themed PS4 and a controller, inspired by Vader’s iconic suit, to match. The PS4 will have a cartoon rendition of the Sith Lord’s helmet emblazoned on the system’s side, and those who want the unit will also be given the choice between two bundles. The Darth Vader PS4 will be paired with, predictably, DICE’s upcoming, multiplayer-only Star Wars Battlefront or Disney Infinity 3.0, which features Star Wars Episode 7 characters prominently.
The Battlefront bundle will offer a custom 500GB PS4, a Dualshock 4 wireless controller, and a copy of Star Wars Battlefront‘s Deluxe Edition. On top of the already sweet Vader logo on the side of the system, gamers will also get to admire the famous Star Wars logo on the top of the PS4. Meanwhile, the Disney Infinity 3.0 bundle will contain: the same custom 500GB PS4, a Dualshock 4 wireless controller, the Disney Infinity Base, the Rise Against the Empire Playset Pack (which features Luke and Leia for those fans of the classics), and the Boba Fett figure. The Boba Fett inclusion is a PS4 exclusive for Disney Infinity 3.0, and given the adoration many Star Wars have for the antagonistic bounty hunter, it’ll be in high demand.
The limited edition bundles, available November 17, will also come with 4 classic Star Wars titles for free. Super Star Wars, Racers Revenge, Bounty Hunter and Jedi Starfighter will all come with the systems, and full trophy support for the games will be included as well. No price tag has been announced yet, but one should be coming soon.
Just who these bundles are aimed at is interesting to consider. Although a lot of the people playing Star Wars Battlefront will be already familiar with Vader and the original Star Wars trilogy, there is a chance those more interested in the Disney Infinity 3.0 bundle might not have the same strong feelings towards Vader’s menacing helmet. However, with the Rise Against the Empire Playset tabbed to immerse players within the original trilogy’s storyline, those unacquainted with Darth Vader likely won’t be for much longer.
