Darksiders Genesis is an upcoming top-down hack-n-slash game in the Darksiders series published by THQ Nordic and developed by Airship Syndicate. It has been announced that two players will be able to play together in a co-op mode and take on hordes of demons as one of the four horsemen. War, the protagonist of the first Darksiders game, has been revealed as a playable character in Darksiders Genesis along with his brother Strife. Darksiders Genesis will act as a prequel to the mainline games and focuses on the events that take place before Lucifer starts to upset the balance between Heaven and Hell.

The first three games in the main series took place at the same time period, but Darksiders Genesis will go back thousands of years and shows how the Four Horsemen came together to destroy their own kin the Nephilim and eradicated all the powerful demons from Hell following the fall of Eden. This is the first time players will be able to play as the gun-slinging horseman Strife. The recent trailer shows both War and Strife taking on hordes of demons with the former using melee attacks while the latter utilizes his long-range shooting abilities.

Single-mode players will be able to switch between both characters instantly, which makes it easier for players to use long-range attacks for certain enemies while using close-up hack-and-slash for others. However, the co-op mode will not allow character switching, and players will be locked to whatever character they choose at the beginning of the game. Darksiders Genesis looks and plays similar to Diablo games, and it also promises different RPG elements like unlocking abilities, weapons, and armor enhancements, etc. which are all staples of the Darksiders franchise.

There are still no confirmed details regarding the game’s release date, but THQ Nordic has announced that Darksiders Genesis will make its way to PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia sometime in 2019. So, it’s safe to assume that the game will come out sometime in the next four months. The latest Darksiders 3 didn't really fare well and was a letdown both in terms of gameplay and story, so it will be interesting to see how fans react to Darksiders Genesis.

Darksiders Genesis releases in 2019 on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
