Darksiders, as a franchise, is arguably one of the most popular IPs currently under the THQ Nordic House. The first game is considered an instant classic, the second game followed it well, the third game was hit or miss, and Darksiders Genesis is a fun co-op spin-off. Via each of these games now, fans have played War, Death, Fury, and Strife, giving fans reason to hope that the next game is a four-player co-op title with all four Horsemen.

Fans have been calling for a Darksiders game like this for quite some time, one where the events actually followed the first game when War summoned the Horsemen. Fans still don’t know when and if this will be the next game, but it may seem that Darksiders 4 is further along than many may have thought thanks to new promo art.

Anton Lavrushkin, who is credited as an illustrator on Darksiders 3, recently posted new promo art for the franchise to his ArtStation account. As seen below, it’s simply described as promotion art commission work for THQ Nordic on the Darksiders franchise, and as many fans have noted already, the picture looks quite a bit like Lilith, mother of the Nephilim. Mostly appearing in the shadows, she has played some role from minor to big in each main game released so far.

As such, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her serve as a primary antagonist, regardless of where on the Darksiders timeline this new game is set. This art, if it is taken to mean that Lilith will play a bigger role in the currently unconfirmed and unannounced game, at the very least suggests her role isn’t just from the shadows anymore, but fans should still take this with a grain of salt.

As promo art, this image’s intent would be to promote and advertise the game whenever it happened, but at the same time, there’s no reason to believe this means Darksiders 4 is in development. That’s to say, just because Lavrushkin posted this a day ago doesn’t mean it was commissioned as recently. It could be a little older and had never come to fruition, or it could be much older but Lilith’s character changed. It is notably a good sign that each image is dated 2021 though. In short, while it is a potentially good sign that Darksiders 4 news is forthcoming, it’s still worth taking with a grain of salt.

This, in turn, poses the question of whether Darksiders 4 is in development or not. It seems inevitable, but whether one piece of art supports that being true now or not is up in the air. At the very least, THQ Nordic has a lot of games on the horizon, with or without the Horsemen.

Darksiders 4 is not confirmed to be in development.
