A new gameplay video has been released online for the upcoming game Darksiders 3, giving fans of the series a glimpse at the new game's combat, and ending with a battle against a Lava Brute.

Darksiders 3 is being developed by THQ Nordic, and although little has been shown of the game so far, it is known that the game's protagonist will be Fury, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Though details are scarce, the game's story is said to focus around Fury hunting down the Seven Deadly Sins. Fans of the hack-and-slash action RPG have now been offered a look, albeit a brief one, at gameplay footage of Fury in action, engaging simple enemies before clashing with a Lava Brute.

Although only a short clip, the trailer highlights the sort of gameplay that players are likely to expect throughout the game as they traverse the environment and engage the more common enemy types. While footage of dramatic boss fights can be exciting, it is nonetheless gameplay like this which most of the game will consist of. Given that THQ Nordic has seemed to be aiming for a familiar style and tone in its design of Darksiders 3, it makes sense that they would want to reassure fans that the game will also have a familiar feel to play.

The upcoming game has certainly been long awaited, and anticipation is thus high for the third entry in the franchise. A sequel to Darksiders 2 was originally planned by Vigil Games in 2012, but these plans came to an end when THQ went bankrupt later that year. The company's assets were auctioned off and Vigil Games was closed down. While several companies sought to bid for Darksiders in 2013, including Platinum Games and Crytek USA, it was ultimately bought by Nordic Games, along with the THQ trademark.

Though a formal release date has yet to be set, and fans have only been offered glimpses of the game so far, it seems likely that THQ Nordic will release more information in the new year.

Darksiders 3 is scheduled for a 2018 release, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
