Several days ago, Amazon leaked a handful of images for THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games' forthcoming Darksiders 3, ultimately confirming the existence of the title before the publisher and developer's intention to announce it with an official reveal. Now, the game's creators have unveiled several new screenshots–along with some that have been previously shown off–that highlight the hack-and-slash game's protagonist Fury's abilities, and also showcase some of the sequel's environments and art styles.

As seen in the gallery of images below, the majority of Fury's talents lie within her long, serpentine whip, which will not only allow her to defeat her foes with lethal prejudice, but also will help her traverse across environments by letting her swing from place to place. While this is just conjecture at this point in time, it looks as if Fury's whip in Darksiders 3 will have a similar reach, speed, and range of motion of Kratos' Blades of Olympus in the God of War series.

In addition to Fury's abilities, this fresh crop of Darksiders 3 stills shows that the developers at Gunfire Games intend to maintain the unique art style found in previous games in the series, but this time around, it seems as if there will be a marked increase in verticality versus prior entries. For instance, when one takes into account the images depicting the underground metro and the city landscape overgrown with fauna, the developers are likely intending to allow players to navigate greater heights and depths not found in earlier Darksiders titles.

Taking all of this into consideration, one can only hope that Darksiders 3 manages to exceed the expectations built in from the first two installments in the franchise, while also maintaining what made its successors so much fun. Not to mention, for the sake of THQ Nordic, Darksiders 3 will help build the relatively new company's growing library with a solid entry to lay the foundation for more great games to come.

Darksiders 3 is in production for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official release date.
