With the Spike 2011 Video Game Awards now just under a day away, we expect that most of the press releases concerning content that will be shown at this year's awards ceremony will slow down and perhaps even stop altogether in anticipation of the event. But THQ decided to make one final announcement concerning a new teaser trailer for Darksiders 2.

The focus of the teaser will be the new protagonist Death, but beyond that THQ has not offered any additional details regarding the teaser. But you can catch it, as well as all of the other announced trailers, during this years awards Saturday at 8 PM Eastern Time/5 PM Pacific Time.

So far, we know that Darksiders 2 will focus on Death, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, in a story that runs parallel to the first game. If you haven't played Darksiders (something that I would highly recommend) the first game centered on War, who ends up getting blamed for starting armageddon prematurely -- thus wiping out all human life on planet earthand leaving the landscape a wasteland where angels and demons continue to fight an ongoing war for dominance. In Darksiders 2, Death is searching for the truth in order to exonerate his brother War.

Darksiders 2 was originally announced at E3 2010, but Vigil Games and THQ stayed silent regarding several of the details until the game was featured on the cover of Game Informer magazine in July of this year, which ended up showing up on newsstands just one week before E3 2011. What followed was a flurry of info regarding bits of the story, some of the new artwork, and the central protagonist. But much of the information has been surface stuff, and THQ and Vigil Games have yet to go into more detail regarding some of the other aspects of the game.

As far as new IPs go, the original Darksiders was a hit game that snuck in under most people's radar. It also drew mixed reactions for its whole-cloth implementation of many of the gameplay mechanics from the Legend of Zelda franchise. However, it found its feet amongst a crowd of gamers that had been waiting eagerly for Nintendo to make a mature themed Zelda game.

Darksiders 2 will be released summer 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It is also rumored to be a launch game for the Wii U.
