Darksiders 2 is the much-anticipated follow-up to the surprise hit, Darksiders, developed by Vigil Games. The game is still in development and there haven’t been any major updates recently, but it was announced that Darksiders 2 will be a Wii U launch title. Besides that, we have some gorgeous Darksiders 2 screenshots, as well as a new trailer (but mostly familiar trailer), courtesy of Gamescom 2011.

Ever since the debut trailer, fans of Darksiders have been patiently waiting more information regarding the sequel. Vigil Games’ Art Director explained the art design behind the new title, but other than the trailer, gamers haven’t had much of a glimpse of Darksiders 2's graphics.

Now, there are some quality Darksiders 2 screenshots for fans to sink their teeth into. The game once again features more of Joe Madureira’s stylish artwork. If Darksiders 2’s gameplay can live up to its fantastic art style and graphics, it is bound to be a must-play in 2012.

It’s hard to argue with such style. The image of Death dragging his giant axe towards the boss creature is great and really emphasizes the weight of the weapons. Objects in Darksiders 2 are not blocky or overly cartoony, but there is definitely an over-sized aesthetic — which is especially appealing.

It is obvious that Vigil Games is investing a lot of effort in the visual side of Darksiders 2. Hopefully, this hard work ethic exists in other areas of the game’s development as well. Unfortunately, Darksiders 2 will not offer a co-op mode (partially because of the extensive amount of additional animations they would have to create), but everything thus far suggests that it will be an entertaining single player experience.
