Originally designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System back in the late 80s, Dark Void Zero was a project that never saw the light of day. The game was to include an all new chipset with each cartridge just to handle the number of sprites on screen and the all new special effects the game was going to show off. Alas, the release of the Super Nintendo made the additional hardware requirements redundant and Capcom put the project on hold while it evaluated the new console. It was shelved for some time before an unfortunate magnet accident made it an infamous "lost project" over at Capcom.

Of course, that's not where the story ends. With Dark Void entering development for the current generation of systems, interest resurfaced in the original game that inspired it all. So Capcom had it redeveloped. And it came to pass that Dark Void Zero was released for DSiWare on January 18, 2010, one day before Dark Void. Those who missed it are getting a second chance though as the game is going for a second tour. Dark Void Zero will be released once more on April 12, 2010 for the iPhone and for the PC through Steam.

If you haven't seen it yet here's the trailer that was released to advertise Dark Void Zero for DSiWare:

The iPhone and PC versions include some new online features too. You can earn online achievement points though OpenFeint on the iPhone and Steam Achievements on the PC. Also new is an online leaderboard that tracks your highest scores and best speed-run times. If you've already played through Dark Void Zero before on DSiWare, there's still a little something extra for you as well. A secret ending has been included in the iPhone and PC versions of the game as an added bonus.

Are you going to give this retro title a second chance?
