Today has been a big day for Dark Souls fans. After months of rumors, Bandai Namco officially confirmed that a remaster of the first Dark Souls game will be released on PC and consoles (including the Nintendo Switch) this summer. But that's not all, as the publisher had another surprise in store for fans of the notoriously difficult action series.

Bandai Namco has also confirmed that it will soon be releasing a Dark Souls trilogy box set. The box set includes all three games from the trilogy, including Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls 3: The Fire Fades Edition. Ideal for Dark Souls superfans, the box set includes a pair of bookends that are designed to look just like a fireplace, as well as a book for collectors, and several stunning art prints. Additionally, it includes six discs that cover the entire musical score of the trilogy.

The Dark Souls trilogy boxset is currently set to release in Japan on May 25, 2018 (which is the Dark Souls Remastered release date) and will cost 49,800 Yen (equivalent to $450). It's currently unclear when or if Bandai Namco plans to release the box set in any other regions. The box set is listed as a PS4 exclusive and it's also unclear whether this content might be released for PC and Xbox One.

The box set itself is exciting for fans of the franchise who will surely jump at the chance to bag some cool-looking merchandise. Many will also be wondering what all of these recent Dark Souls developments could mean for the future of the franchise.

Dark Souls developer FromSoftware has previously stated that it is done with the series for now and that there are currently no plans to release any more Dark Souls games. However, many fans will be crossing their fingers that, if these re-releases perform well in terms of sales, FromSoftware will revisit the beloved series. After all, it would be difficult for the developer to pass up the opportunity knowing that fans are so eager for the franchise to be continued.

At this point, it's too early to say for certain whether strong sales could change FromSoftware's mind. According to some reports, in the more immediate future, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware may be considering remasters of Dark Souls 2 and 3. The possibility of a brand new Dark Souls game is still exciting though, so fingers crossed.
