Following on from the 2009 sleeper hit Demon's Souls, FromSoftware's Dark Souls trilogy is the series that really put the developer on the map in terms of mainstream recognition. Offering a brutal level of difficulty, some of the best boss designs in all of gaming, and a uniquely grim fantasy setting, the Dark Souls trilogy is widely considered to be one of the best action franchises of all time, and its wide array of iconic weapons certainly contributes to that.

Though each Dark Souls game has its own, slightly different setting, its own slew of bosses, and its own array of enemies, some weapons have carried over to multiple entries, cementing their place as series' staples. But some of the most iconic Dark Souls weapons are actually only found in one of the titles, instead standing out for either looking incredibly unique, or offering some of the most overpowered attacks in the entire game.

A staple not only of the Dark Souls series, but FromSoftware games in general, the Moonlight Greatsword appears in almost every fantasy game the developer has ever worked on. First appearing in FromSoftware's King's Field series, the Moonlight Greatsword is instantly recognizable thanks to its glowing blue blade. In the Dark Souls series, the Moonlight Greatsword is often pretty gigantic as well, with a moveset that uses heavy-handed, powerful attacks. Always tied to a dragon, Dark Souls' Moonlight Greatsword can be obtained by chopping off Seath's tail, Dark Souls 2's can be acquired from Ornifex by trading the Old Paledrake soul, and Dark Souls 3's can be found by transposing Oceiros' boss soul.

When it comes to the first Dark Souls, there are a handful of weapons that manage to stand head and shoulders above the rest. The Greatsword of Artorias is one such weapon. Obtained by trading Sif's boss soul, the Greatsword of Artorias stands out by being the weapon of one of the game's most beloved bosses, and characters. The sleek design of the weapon is complimented by its functionality, being a powerful weapon with a variant that can kill ghost enemies. Dark Souls' Black Knight weapons are also extremely iconic, being some of the most lethal in the entire game, landing them in the top spot for speedrunners.

Another weapon that spans the entire Dark Souls trilogy, the Dragon Tooth is undeniably one of the most iconic weapons in FromSoftware history. A literal dragon's tooth, fashioned into a gigantic club, the Dragon Tooth first appears in Dark Souls, where it's used by Havel the Rock. In Dark Souls 2, players can find the weapon in the Dragon Aerie, and in Dark Souls 3, the Dragon Tooth is dropped by the Havel Knight in Archdragon Peak.

Ornstein, another knight of Gwyn, is also equipped with one of the most iconic weapons in Dark Souls, which also appears in every game in the trilogy. Named the Dragonslayer Spear, this weapon's defining trait is that it's imbued with lightning, delivering high amounts of damage with each strike, and looking suitably flashy while doing so. In the original Dark Souls, players need to use Ornstein's soul to obtain the spear, in Dark Souls 2, the Old Dragonslayer soul needs to be traded, and in Dark Souls 3, it can be found in Archdragon Peak. Dark Souls 3 also features a new and improved version of the Dragonslayer Spear, the Dragonslayer Swordspear, which can be obtained by defeating The Nameless King.
