Trying to keep active while gaming has been a difficult task, as the genre of entertainment often emphasizes long windows of time spent almost completely immobile. However, developers like Nintendo are trying to strike a balance with games like Wii Fit and the highly successful Ring Fit Adventure. However, one player, not content with being limited to the cartoon-styled mini-games of Ring Fit Adventure, has created a mod to use the exercise based controller to play Dark Souls 3 and get a workout at the same time.

The modder, who goes by Super Louis 64 both on Twitter and YouTube, has been making a name for himself as a "controller bender" for his ability to beat games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with DK Bongos, as well as other intense controller challenges. In fact, this isn't even Super Louis 64's first attempt at tackling Dark Souls 3 or other FromSoftware games with expert level challenges, all thanks to some pretty impressive mods.

Starting with a Reddit post and eventually moving on to his Twitter account @SuperLouis_64, the modder began showing off his most recent project, and explains how players are expected to travel through Dark Souls 3 using the Ring Fit Adventure controller.

Movement and healing are both handled by the player moving their own legs, so if they want to make their character run, the player has to run first and to drink the all-important Estus Flask. Additionally, the player must perform a squat to have their character heal. This makes the already intensely hard locations of Dark Souls even harder, but it also offers a fairly comprehensive workout as players are forced to keep active if they want to stay alive.

Most of the controls are accessed in a similar way to what players are already familiar with, such as joysticks and buttons, but what specifies this mod for the Ring Fit Adventure controller is that these functions won't activate unless it detects that the player is physically moving.

For instance, players can attack by squeezing the ring, which also gives players access to the joystick, allowing them to aim their attacks enough to land a strike on an enemy. The entire function of the mod lets players use an unconventional method to challenge Dark Souls 3, which is great news for anyone who might have been looking for an extra challenge.

Commenting through the Twitter thread where he shared his mod, Super Louis 64 claims that he has future plans for modding the Ring Fit Adventure controller, including titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Considering how many times he's tackled the incredibly difficult bosses of Dark Souls with wildly unconventional methods, relaxation on a virtual island might be just what he needs.

Dark Souls 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
