With Dark Souls: Remastered less than a month away, fans of the popular RPG are patiently waiting to return to the deep lore and famously difficult gameplay developer From Software first delivered over seven years ago. Now it seems that fans won't have to wait quite as long to get a taste of the updated game as Bandi Namco prepares to begin network tests.

Announced by Bandai Namco today via press release, Xbox One and PS4 players will be able to test out Dark Souls: Remastered on May 11th and May 12th. The test, which is free to everyone, will be accessible for three hours each day, between 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. PDT.

The announcement was accompanied by a full-resolution screenshot of the game that can be seen below:

The game's network test client is currently available to download from the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network stores, with a file size of around 3 GBs. Those interested in the partaking in the test will want to act fast as the client will only be up for a week, being taken down May 8th at 11:59 PM. If Xbox players are planning on trying out the game during the network test they should be aware that an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required.

During the test, players will be limited to the Undead Parish location, a small area that features the Bell Gargoyles bosses. Bandi Namco hasn't made it clear whether or not the bosses and all other enemies known to inhabit the area will be available for players to battle during the test, though it seems unlikely that they wouldn't be included. The publisher has said that the test will see players engage in co-op gameplay and invade other players games.

No doubt the network test is going to be very popular, with The Dark Souls trilogy being widely considered one of the best and most rewarding RPGs ever made. Be it because of its deep lore, or because of the challenge it presents for players to overcome, the game's fan base is strong and with the clock ticking down to its release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC later this month (Sorry Nintendo Switch fans) anticipation is only going to grow.

Dark Souls: Remastered is set to release on May 25 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 with a Nintendo Switch release slated for summer of 2018.
