It has been almost 7 years since we faced the undead and some impressive bosses in Dark Souls, but soon players will get to test their mettle once again. The forthcoming remaster of the critically acclaimed RPG will be called Dark Souls: Remastered and in addition to being available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Nintendo fans can look forward to being able to play the game on the Nintendo Switch as the Switch's entourage of games continues to grow.

When the remaster was first announced, most assumed that development would be handled by a developer other than From Software, although nothing was confirmed. Now we know who is handling Dark Souls: Remastered. Chinese-based studio Virtuos, together with Bandai Namco, will be in charge of bringing Dark Souls: Remastered to life on the Nintendo Switch.

Virtuos has worked on other games for the next-generation consoles, such as Assassins Creed: The Ezio Collection and Batman: Return to Arkham, but most notably, the company was responsible for bringing Rockstar Games's detective game, L.A. Noire, to the Nintendo Switch in November 2017. The developers of the original Dark Souls game that was released in 2011, From Software, will also be on board in some capacity, as well as the Polish software and game developer, QLOC, who recently worked on Injustice 2.

Nothing has been revealed about the gameplay for the remaster so far, but from previous experiences with the Skyrim remaster, and the Bioshock and Tomb Raider remasters, we can assume that Dark Souls: Remastered will follow the structure of the original game, perhaps just with significantly improved graphics and smoother gameplay afforded by the next generation consoles. Hopefully, more detail about the gameplay, as well as images from the game, will be made available closer to its release.

Dark Souls is certainly considered one of the best games ever made by some, and many RPG fans will look forward to playing the game again on next-generation consoles. Remastered games have been welcomed by the gaming community up to this point, as gamers enjoy playing their old favorites on their new, more powerful consoles, and Dark Souls is no exception.

Dark Souls: Remastered is expected to be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 25th of this year.
