From Software's Dark Souls 3 is already renowned for its trying difficulty, and one gamer's attempt to make Dark Souls even harder goes a little too well.

Dark Souls 3, From Software's latest adventure in tip-toeing the line between frustrating and compelling, is one of the most successful games released this year and topped April 2016's best-selling video game list. Part of that success stems from From Software's conscious decision to remain true to the formula that has made the Souls series so popular over the past seven years, and Dark Souls 3 is no exception.

For some, however, the marriage of deep, rewarding combat systems and increasingly punishing levels and enemies simply isn't enough anymore. Gamers have been playing the Souls series for long enough now that true veterans of From Software's brand of action RPGs need to create self-imposed restrictions to feel challenged. YouTuber Slimecircle is one such player, and he recorded a video of himself attempting to beat Dark Souls 3 using only voice commands.

The endeavor goes about as well as one would expect. Although things go wrong right at the very beginning, Slimecircle manages to get all the way to Dark Souls 3's first boss, beating him before finally giving up and admitting that an entire playthrough of the game using voice only would be nearly impossible. That may be the case for Dark Souls 3, as no one has accomplished that feat so far, but it's important to remember that some gamers have managed to beat Dark Souls games with only their voices before. It's likely only a matter of time before someone achieves that lofty goal in From Software's latest installment too.

That being said, however, Slimecircle's effort is still commendable. In a game as difficult as Dark Souls 3, even getting past the first boss under a ridiculous, self-imposed restriction is an impressive triumph. It can be difficult to contextualize just how hard it is to do anything but play Dark Souls 3 normally and find success, but From Software's recent revelation that a whopping ten percent of Dark Souls 3 players haven't even made it to the first bonfire should go a long way in proving that the series is still as menacing as ever.

While From Software has confirmed that Dark Souls 3 is the last entry into the series for the foreseeable future, the variety its core mechanics offers players will keep it fresh for a long time coming. Efforts like Slimecircle's are evidence of that fact, and the Souls community is likely to thrive on one-upping each other's ridiculous trials until From Software releases another hyper-challenging title - like a sequel to Bloodborne, perhaps.

What do you think of Slimecircle's self-imposed challenge? Could you do better, or do you struggle with the first boss even with a controller in hand? Let us know in the comments below.
