The YouTuber known as Iron Pineapple teams up with a few friends to recreate Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots in Dark Souls 3, and it goes about as well as you'd imagine.

As one of the most notoriously challenging game franchises currently on the market, Dark Souls has earned every ounce of its reputation. Despite the grim tone and aesthetic of the series, the latest iteration of the IP, appropriately branded Dark Souls 3, wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as it is now if it wasn't any fun to play. Of course, the fan base surrounding the games is partially to thank for its appeal, and the unique approaches to playing the titles has surfaced in countless user-generated videos.

The latest noteworthy addition comes from one YouTuber going by the handle Iron Pineapple, and this individual has taken a unique approach to character creation and the game's multiplayer to create a rather brutal rendition of Shrek. The makeshift ogre has been recreated rather well given the tools at the player's disposal, and the addition of Donkey and Puss in Boots only make the endeavor that much more comical. Of course, much like the themes surrounding Dark Souls 3, there's no DreamWorks-styled happy ending to this swamp-based romp.

Multiplayer is one of the more intriguing features of the Dark Souls series, which often presents some bizarre scenarios for players based on the style of play each individual has. Those that are keen on trolling a player will do so, while others are quick to try to make friends. Regardless, it would seem Iron Pineapple isn't too gung-ho on making chums of invaders – at least in the long term. The YouTuber tolerated a lot more than most players, too, so the fan should be commended for keeping it together long enough to make an entertaining video.

Given the fact that Dark Souls 3 has broken sales records, there's little question that Bandai Namco will be looking to keep the From Software-developed series going. In the meantime, however, it sounds like gamers will have some substantial downloadable add-ons for the game to look forward to in the coming months, and that should add even more content to keep fans engaged in the frustration-fuelled frenzy that is Dark Souls.

Of course, the return of Shrek remains to be seen in those future content drops, but Iron Pineapple may have a trick or two left for subscribers over on the user's official YouTube channel.

Dark Souls 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
