The Dark Souls series has a history of annoying boss fights that will have you crying out in pain time and time again. Dark Souls 3 is no exception with bosses that can force a game over without so much as lifting a finger.

With each boss fight comes a new way that you can get your rear end handed to you, but hopefully, with the help of this list, you will have a little more understanding of how to go about taking on the daunting task of defeating some of the game's hardest bosses. Just try not to break your controller in the process.

10 Halflight, Spear Of The Church

When playing offline or if you get lucky, Halflight will appear along with a painting guardian. While still difficult, this version of the boss poses much less of a threat. She has a few moves that, if not careful, can place players in a stun lock and ultimately kill them. If unlucky, however, this boss can turn into one of the hardest in the game. This is because instead of Halflight appearing, it can be another player. Depending on how good one is at PVP, it's easy to get defeated when another player is summoned as the boss.

9 Dragonslayer Armour

The Dragonslayer Armour is the bane of many players' existence and can easily kill the careless. What makes this boss so powerful is that it uses a great axe with a very wide swing, and a shield that it can cower behind. This combination can be deadly and the smaller arena can make dodging difficult. About halfway through the fight, projectiles will be shot from either side of the bridge. Those who aren't paying attention can easily get caught, thrown into a potentially lethal multi-hit combo. Along with all of this, it is possible to accidentally jump off the map.

8 Soul Of Cinder

Soul of Cinder is the final boss of Dark Souls 3's main story and can be pretty hard for most players. He has two phases that have hard to dodge attacks and require constant awareness. During phase one, he will switch his attack style by altering his weapon to either be a curved sword, staff, or spear. Each weapon changes his attack pattern and can easily throw players off. He will also begin to use pyromancies after he changes his weapon. His pyromancy can be hard to dodge or buff his attack power. During phase two, his weapon becomes engulfed in flames that increases its range. During this phase as well, he gets a five-hit combo that can drastically drain your health bar.

7 Aldrich, Devourer Of Gods

Aldrich is another boss with multiple phases with the second being far worse than the first. In the first phase, his attacks aren't extremely difficult to dodge but can be difficult to keep up with because of his constant teleporting. He summons magical orbs that will follow you around the room.

These don't hit hard but can throw off your character and leave players open to an attack. The second phase increases his attack power and adds fire to his weapon. During this phase, his attacks become erratic and harder to dodge. He also starts to use his bow more frequently which causes arrows to rain from the sky and follow players around the room. If you get caught in this attack, it can easily be fatal, so it is definitely one to watch out for.

6 Dancer Of The Boreal Valley

player vs dancer of the boreal valley

The Dancer of the Boreal Valley was once revered by Dark Souls 3 fans as the hardest boss in the game. She stands in the way of getting into Lothric Castle and can spell doom for many players. Essentially, she attacks at a much different speed than other bosses and has a much more difficult attack pattern to follow. She has three phases that progressively get harder. During her first phase, she has slower attacks that can be dodged pretty easily. Once phase two begins, she pulls a second sword from the ground and begins attacking at a much faster rate. Then during phase three, her attack frequency increases even more.

5 Nameless King

The Nameless King is where boss fights begin to get extremely difficult. He is one of the optional bosses in the game, but also has two phases that can each be challenging. During his first phase, he arrives on a dragon that he rides through the sky and casts lightning spells from. He becomes vulnerable when landing, but he uses his 'swordspear' to fend you off. Once the dragon is killed, the Nameless King attacks on foot. He comes in with multiple sweeping attacks with high speed and little room for error when dodging. He also has a tendency to cast Lightning Stake. All of these moves can drastically drain health. Even though this boss is extremely difficult, the aesthetics are something to truly admire.

4 Demon Prince

The Demon Prince boss fight is the first from the Ringed City DLC. The fight starts off with players fighting two demons, The Demon From Below and The Demon in Pain. These two work together to take you down and can easily do so if you aren't careful. There are some players who don't make it to the second phase because of this. It is best to focus on one of the demons to make the fight a little more manageable once one goes down. After both are defeated, the Demon Prince will appear and its attacks will become far more erratic with wild slashes and fiery slams that will leave most screaming in anger. During this phase, the Demon Prince likes to launch fire orbs that release projectiles while players try to dodge the physical attacks from the demon. This fight is definitely recommended to do with multiple summons.

3 Slave Knight Gael

During this fight, players leave Dark Souls behind and transition into the speed and ferocity of Bloodborne. Slave Knight Gael comes in fast with hard-hitting attacks that aren't hard to dodge or block. During phase two is when things start to become intense. Gael's weapon gets buffs and a trail of blood-like magic follows his attacks which can easily drain the health bar.

He also uses a miracle that launches multiple discs in a single direction that, if not careful, will easily punish players. Phase three comes with even more aggression and the arena starts getting struck with randomized lightning strikes.

2 Sister Friede

Sister Friede is arguably harder to defeat than Slave Knight Gael. She has fast attacks with large sweeping motions. She has a tendency to turn invisible which makes her difficult to keep up with and, if unaware, can also leave one open to getting attacked from behind. Her second phase is more difficult because Father Ariandel will join the fight. Without a summon, the two of them can easily overwhelm anybody. Phase three increases Friede's attack even more and adds black fire to her scythe. She also gains multiple ice moves that can easily cause the frostbitten effect, making one more susceptible to damage.

1 Darkeater Midir

Darkeater Midir is easily the hardest fight in all of Dark Souls 3. The first encounter with him comes on a long stone bridge. This fight is rather easy and his attacks are easy to dodge. Once defeated, he will fall into the chasm where he must be found again to get to the actual boss fight. When entering the boss fight, it is best to stick closer to him because his long-range attacks are much deadlier than his melee attacks. His attacks are extremely erratic and he loves to use the massive boss arena to his advantage. Be careful when he flies up into the air because he lets forth a massive fire attack that can easily end an otherwise great run.
