Like the previous Souls games, Dark Souls 3 has multiple NPCs that players with full questlines for players to discover. One of these NPCs is Hawkwood. He has one of the more obscure questlines that players often forget about.

Players will first discover this sullen man in Dark Souls 3 when they reach Firelink Shrine. He may be the first NPC that players notice as they make their way to the bonfire in the center of the area. It turns out, that this NPC is one of importance and he will give players items for defeating bosses that are tied to his questline.

Defeat The Abyss Watchers

The Abyss Watchers are a boss that is a little later in the game. After exhausting Hawkwood's dialogue for the first time, players will need to wait until they have reached the Farron Woods to fight the Abyss Watchers.

Once they are defeated, players need to return to Firelink Shrine and talk to Hawkwood. Exhausting all of his dialogue here will award players with the Farron Ring. Make sure to place the Abyss Watcher Ashes on the throne in Firelink Shrine before talking to Hawkwood.

Defeat More Bosses

Dark Souls 3 Crystal Sage, Deacons of the Deep, and Curse-rotted Greatwood bosses

There is a list of bosses that players need to defeat to get the next item from Hawkwood and progress his questline. Players will need to defeat the Crystal Sage, Curse-Rotted Greatwood, Deacons of the Deep, and Abyss Watchers. Once all of these bosses are defeated and the Farron Ring has been retrieved, Hawkwood will leave Firelink Shrine.

When this happens, players can talk to Andre the Blacksmith to obtain some information about Hawkwood and the Hawkwood Shield. There is a chance that his shield will spawn outside of Firelink Shrine on a nearby gravesite with a sword sticking out of it.

Obtain The Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone

To get the Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone, players will need to reach Archdragon Peak. Once there, players will need to fight their way to the end of the area. There is a long pathway that is guarded by a large group of Serpent Men. After finishing them all off, follow the pathway through the archway and up to an altar.

Once there, players will need to use the Path of the Dragon gesture in front of the altar and wait until they receive the item. Once they have the item, they need to go back to Firelink Shrine and talk to Andre. Andre will inform the players that Hawkwood and requested a duel.

Time To Duel

After talking to Andre, players will need to make their way back to the arena where they fought the Abyss Watchers. Hawkwood will be waiting for the players to give them a proper duel. It is important to note that Hawkwood has seven Estus that he can use during the fight.

If a player is killed by Hawkwood, he will take their Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone. If the player kills Hawkwood, they will receive the Twinkling Dragon Head Stone. Players who died at Hawkwood's hand can still get their Torso Stone back by defeating him.
