Developer From Software teases a big announcement set for next week for its action-RPG Dark Souls 3, which possibly points to news regarding the game's DLC.

The developers for what is arguably one of the top games of 2016 so far, Dark Souls 3, took to the franchise's official Twitter account today to tease that a "major announcement" related to the title is scheduled for next week on August 24. While the developer From Software didn't reveal any concrete information about what fans can expect from the news, it's highly likely that the studio will reveal details involving the game's first DLC.

As seen in the tweet below, the attached image refers directly to the action-RPG's players—that is, the "Ashen Ones"—by telling them that they will have to wait until From Software officially delivers the upcoming news for Dark Souls 3. Unfortunately, not much else is known at this time, but considering the fact that developers previously stated that the title’s first batch of post-launch content would release sometime this fall, the mention of "huge news" coming in August could be the studio prepping fans for a reveal for the DLC's autumn release date.

Should an earlier leak regarding the game's Season Pass be accurate, Dark Souls 3 will have two DLC packs in total, with the first potentially launching on December 4. As is to be expected, both add-ons are likely to contain new maps, enemies bosses, as well as weapons and armor sets. If fans wish to obtain both of the expansions in a bundle, it has been reported that the Season Pass will cost $25, but that has yet to be officially confirmed by developers.

Of course, it's quite possible that today's tease for Dark Souls 3's news next week could have nothing to do with the game's DLC in any capacity. After all, prior to the title's release back in April, publisher Bandai Namco teased that "big" news was on the way, but once the reveal occurred, it only tenuously related to the sequel. As it happens, the company ended up showing off merchandise for a Dark Souls clothing line instead of doling out any actual information specifically connected to the third installment in the trilogy.

Taking all of this into consideration, it would be best for Dark Souls 3 fans to scale back their expectations and remain grounded with their theories about what could be in next week's news. While it's certainly feasible that From Software is ready to reveal the contents and release date for the game's first DLC pack, one can never truly know what will come of these kinds of teaser announcements on social media.

That said, what's your take on today's Dark Souls 3 tease for a "major announcement" next week? Do you believe developers are set to divulge details about the action-RPG's DLC, or do you feel as if the disclosure could be somewhat of a let down? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Dark Souls 3 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
