Fans of The Dark Pictures Anthology series games Man of Medan and Little Hope were rightfully excited when it was announced that a free upgrade was coming for the PlayStation 5 versions of the games. However, not everyone that has played the games is eligible for this free upgrade.Originally, Man of Medan was in the PlayStation store for free via PS Plus Essential in July on PlayStation 4. For those that obtained the game through this method, the upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version wasn’t made available. Instead, the improved version is only free for those that have already purchased the game. The upgraded version will be available for purchase in the store for those on the PlayStation 5.RELATED: The Dark Pictures Anthology Updates Man of Medan and Little Hope With New ContentThere is some good news for the PlayStation 4 owners of the free Man of Medan version. The new content update that was released this week covers all versions of the game, which includes the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Some of the biggest features of the update include an improved UI, increased walking speeds to keep things moving, and even a new final chapter for Man of Medan titled “Flooded."

Supermassive Games, the creator of The Dark Pictures Anthology, announced that both of the games were released as native titles for the current generation of consoles. The release of the new versions didn’t go swimmingly, though. Early on Thursday, the developer announced that the PC edition of both games was experiencing an issue that they were fixing at the time of writing, with Man of Medan and Little Hope being reverted to their original versions.

Man of Medan was the first release in The Dark Pictures Anthology on August 30, 2019, with Little Hope following the next year on October 30. The first current generation console release came in 2021 with House of Ashes, so the first two games now bring the entire series onto the PlayStation 5. The next entry in the series is The Devil in Me, set for a November 2022 release, and several others are in the works.

There was a lot of intrigue for the release of the first two games, especially for those that skipped the previous generation and went straight to the PlayStation 5. The Devil in Me marks the conclusion of the first season in The Dark Pictures Anthology. Due to the popularity of the games, players can expect a higher budget for season two with more big-name actors.
