Be it sailing above the clouds as sky pirates, stealing from merchant ships on the seas, or creating a criminal empire on a tropical island; these pirates are the biggest risk-takers. These risks and actions have caused them to be seen as the most dangerous pirates in gaming history by players.

8 Barbaros – Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure

The moral of the Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure storyline is never to trust a pirate, even if initially he was just a talking skull at one point. Although, when just a head, he can't do much damage, his persuasion causes Zack to help put him back together in the hope of finding Barbaros' treasure.

Naturally, Barbaros used Zack, as once the final pieces were together, he attempted to kill him and take Treasure Island, as well as the ship, for himself, leaving Zack with nothing. Though, they eventually get back at Barbaros in the end.

7 Tetra – The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Although her first appearance seems to be a rivalry with Link in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Captain Tetra is actually a lot more caring than she first seems. Orphaned at a young age, she quickly took on the Pirate mantle of her late mother, taking over her crew, who seemed to still respect her.

Between her being seen as cold-hearted and bossy at times, Tetra is an amazing Captain of her crew that has led them confidently to find countless treasures before she meets Link. Her danger comes into play after revealing her true identity as actually being Princess Zelda as she holds a Triforce of Wisdom.

6 Fargo – Chrono Cross

The possible Fargo boss battle in Chrono Cross

As the story of Chrono Cross is set over two timelines, there are actually two versions of Fargo that players meet, both versions of him being dangerous at different levels. In the one timeline, Fargo is a far-more ruthless pirate that seems to have a lot of hate stored in his heart, especially towards demi-humans.

His counterpart in an alternate universe may not be as horrid as this Fargo, but that doesn't stop him from being a typical pirate that will easily cheat to get his own way.

5 Balthier – Final Fantasy 12

Cutting ties with his family to become a Sky Pirate, he may not travel across the seas like any regular buccaneer, but that doesn't make Balthier any less of a Pirate Captain. He believes himself to be the leading man of the game, though this is far from the truth.

Balthier's over-confidence is what makes him so dangerous; this man will face any risk in front of him with a smile and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Even if some may see him as a danger to the skies, he is incredibly loyal to his friends and will do anything for them.

4 Edward Kenway – Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag

Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag

A fan favorite of the Assassin's Creed franchise, Edward is not only a skilled assassin but a roguish pirate that rules the seas. Even if the game allows players to meet other infamous and historical pirates, such as Black Beard or Mary Read, who are both incredibly brutal, Edward is the one to beat.

As a fundamental member of the pirates that establish their claim in the Caribbean during the 18th Century, Edward has made a name for himself on the seas alongside his memorable ship, the Jackdaw.

3 Captain Lila – Monkey Island Series

As a fellow Pirate Captain in Monkey Island, Captain Lila is known for more than just her practicing of the dark arts, which is enough to make her one of the most dangerous pirates in the game alone.

As one of the few Pirate Captains that mock the old ways and, therefore, the other Captains that follow it, she was more than willing to stab the ones she was working with in the back during Return To Monkey Island. This willingness to kill those around her mindlessly only adds to her violent streak that players will wish to avoid crossing.

2 Vaas Montenegro – Far Cry 3

Vaas in Far Cry 3

Despite only being the secondary antagonist of Far Cry 3, Vaas is one of the most remembered villains from the franchise as well as being an infamous pirate. Vaas looks to be the one that controls everything that happens on the Rook Islands, though this turns out to not be the case.

It doesn't stop him from doing the brutal things that he does to not only the main character but also his friends, showing his psychopathic tendencies and his brutal methods, making him quite the sadist.

1 Admiral Razorbeard – Rayman Series

First introduced in Rayman 2, this oddly dressed Pirate Captain is one of the most brutal pirates in the entire Galaxy. His horrid nature can be seen throughout the game as it is found out that Razorbeard has leveled countless planets into cosmic dust, destroying all life on them.

However, he takes it one step further when he finally makes it to Rayman's world, as he hopes to enslave all life that lives on it to do his cruel bidding. Although short, his temper is large as he continues to attempt to enslave peaceful planets until stopped by Rayman.
