Portland-based comics writer David F. Walker may have dropped some big news. The Cyborg comic book writer offered his support after Justice League star Ray Fisher posted a lengthy update on the recent controversy surrounding his ongoing issues with Warner Bros., concluding by noting he's developing a project for the actor.
In a statement posted to Fisher's Twitter account, the Cyborg actor specifically calls out the racist and discriminatory attitudes perpetrated by WarnerBros. executives Toby Emmerich, Geoff Johns, and Jon Berg. The Justice League star specifically accuses these executives of "racially discriminatory conversations" that led to the studio attempting to reduce or remove all black people from the film. The Cyborg actor even quotes former Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, alleging he said, "We can't have an angry Black man at the center of the movie." Fisher ended the statement by giving his thanks to the participants in the investigation and praising director Zack Snyder, whose re-edited version of Justice League is set to premiere on HBO Max this month.
Last year, Fisher famously accused interim Justice League director Joss Whedon of abusive and unprofessional behavior on the set of the 2017 superhero film. He's also claimed that this behavior was enabled by Warner Bros. executives, including Johns and Berg. This led to a lengthy investigation, which has reportedly concluded with supposed remedial action, according to Warner Bros. However, in recent months, Fisher's role from the upcoming Flash movie has supposedly been removed, according to the actor. Whedon has also been the subject of several accusations made by other actors and writers that claim he created a toxic working environment on his shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel.
Walker is an extremely accomplished comic book writer, having co-created DC Comics' Naomi (which is also being adapted for the screen) and the Award-winning series Bitter Root for Image Comics. He's also written for other big-name comics including Luke Cage, Occupy Avengers, Power Man & Iron Fist, Young Justice, and the solo Cyborg comic for DC. Walker initially responded to the statement posted by Fisher, writing on his own Twitter account, "To be clear, I have Ray's back, period. We've talked about a lot of things, we know where we stand & we support each other. As far as @ZackSnyder goes, I'm happy that he has the opportunity to complete what he started. #IstandwithRayFisher."
Later, Walker followed this post with another in which he claimed that he is working on a script for Fisher, to which the Justice League star said, "Anytime, Brother." So, audiences may be hoping to see a solo Cyborg movie in the future. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but if Walker's script is made into a film, it's unclear how this will fit into the greater live-action DC movie universe.
The DCEU, as it's known, may be coming to an end with reports saying that WarnerBros. will not be pursuing a Justice League sequel, despite an apparent cliffhanger ending in the Snyder Cut. However, there is still another Wonder Woman movie going forward with director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot attached, as well as other DC movies and TV shows like the upcoming Flash movie and a Green Lantern series on HBO Max.
Zack Snyder's Justice League premieres on HBO Max on March 18th, 2021.
